My family is dysfunctional. One day it was different, I was sitting with my parents and casually chatting, we were laughing, everything seemed "normal". We decided to play a music channel on the TV and while I was looking for some music I came across this song and video, I immediately liked it and turned on Shazam to find it. This song now and always will remind me of that day when it seemed like we were a normal family, a day when there was no yelling and no fighting.

The most impressive part is that there was no digital editing then. No such thing as layers of video elements on a computer. Each layer was composited using analog equipment and hundreds of hours of focus and dedication. Lots of cool stuff could be done with green screens and multiple video players feeding into a mixing console, but the high quality equipment was crazy expensive and required studio space to accommodate all of it. Now people can do all this in their phones. Crazy world.

I find you in the morning After dreams of distant signs You pour yourself over me Like the sun through the blinds You lift me up And get me out Keep me walking But never shout Hold the secret close I hear you say. You know the way It twists and turns Changing colour Spinning yarns You know the way It leaves you dry It cuts you up It takes you high You know the way It's painted gold Is it honey Is it gold You know the way It throws about It takes you in And spits you out. On and on it goes Calling like a distant wind Through the zero hour we'll walk Cut the thick and break the thin No sound to break no moment clear When all the doubts are crystal clear Crashing hard into the secret wind. You know the way It throws about It takes you in And spits you out It spits you out When you desire To conquer it To feel you're higher To follow it You must be clean With mistakes That you do mean Move the heart Switch the pace Look for what Seems out of place. It's o.k. It goes this way The line it twists It twists away Cuts you up And spits you out Keeps you walking But never shout.

When...the concert started...the lights went out and it became so dark I couldn't even see my hand in front of my face....THEN a beam of light to the stage.... THAT ONLY light in the pitch black arena was a beam of focused light that focused ONLY on his eyes....thats ALL you could see....and his eyes were closed. a moment later....his eyes OPENED WIDE ... it was THEN I knew I was in the right place at the right time...because Cuts You Up...began.

He's such a wonderful performer. Again, the first time I saw him, he opened with the eye trick, and the crowd went ballistic. From his 1989 album Deep, released in 1990. God I miss the 80's and 90's eras, best times of my life and the best music.
@gavinhalm30164 жыл бұрын
Arguably the final classic of 1980's "New Wave", and what a masterpiece it is...I remember this song from his solo 1989 album late that year (even before the single was played ad infinitum on the radio in early 1990) right after the Berlin Wall fell and all hell was breaking lose in Europe with the end of the Soviet Bloc, and right before I, and many others from my generation, were stopped dead in our tracks as Nirvana slapped our brains into an entirely new rock-music dimension. But this song was (is) a beautiful last breath of "deep youth" stretching back to our pre-teen years when MTV ruled the airwaves, along with blonde mullets, weird tight leather pseudo-punk pants, and Murphy looking and singing like the rock god that he was...
@Moemoney323 жыл бұрын

Yeah, 1989 gave us some definite gems -- this album (Deep), along with Sonic Temple by the Cult, Faith No More's album with Epic, Mother Love Bone, and Jane's Addictions' Nothings Shocking -- along with a few other classics that I've probably forgotten -- that were still 80's oriented but had an edge to them, that hinted that the new decade would have a lot more going on.
