@@blast3613 LOL that was years ago and unfortunately ended with divorce. i can look at the usage of this dark eighties ballad in one of 2 ways - 1) the dark message of using "strange kind of love" for marriage proposal is telling... as if you don't believe in the relationship to begin with.. 2) my future-ex-husband was not a fan of dark eighties, but he knew i was, so he used a song he thought would make me happy, with not much attention to the lyrics. * i prefer explanation no. 2... i should also mention that the song that i chose to take me to the alter was "garden" by Pearl Jam... so can't blame my ex for extra dark anyway... :) [EDIT] my point is, that good music is timeless [EDIT 2] this specific song is not even dark - it's very hopeful. me and my friends used to be inspired by the lyrics - "it's there in the distance, always offered to me..." i also was lucky enough to witness it live. Peter Murphy's vocals are incredible.

It's an excerpt from Jean Cocteau's Beauty And The Beast with the late comedian Jean Marais. Here's the whole monologue with the translation: (Beast consenting to send temporarily Beauty back to her dying father) Belle, vous y serez ce matin même. (Beauty, you'll be there this morning in no time) Ma nuit n'est pas la vôtre. Il fait nuit chez moi, mais c'est le matin chez vous. (my night time isn't yours. Night rules my domain, but the morning rules at your home.) Here starts the excerpt: Belle, une rose qui a joué son rôle... (Beauty, a rose which has played her part...) ... mon miroir, ma clef d'or, mon cheval et mon gant sont les cinq secrets de ma puissance. (...my mirror, my golden key, my horse and my glove are the five secrets of my power.) Je vous les livre. Il vous suffira de mettre ce gant à votre main droite, et il vous transportera où vous désirerez être. (I leave them between your hands. You'll merely have to fit your right hand with this glove, and it will teleport you where you wish to be.) Souvenez-vous de votre promesse. Adieu, Belle. (Remember your promise. Goodbye, Beauty.)
