I loved the touch of Italian at the end - a beautiful note to end on. But what a beautiful note to begin on! I can't imagine walking into a place like this! As if the piece isn't gorgeous enough on its own, you'd have to proceed down a path like this to get to it?! I can only imagine the feelings of reverence, solemnity, humility, and awe... Incredible.

Sint-Walburgiskerk ceased to be used as a church in the late 18th century, some of the building was then dismantled, some was destroyed in a fire.

This Triptych, along with The Descent from The Cross has been stolen twice: The first time was by the French under Napoleon Bonaparte in 1794 The second time was during World War 1 in 1914 after the German army seized Antwerp. The paintings were taken to Berlin and kept in the Kaiser’s palace until after November 11, 1918 when the Armistice was signed
