If you listen to the dialogues during the story he realised that the city do not need him as Spiderman anymore because of Miles. At the beginning of the game he already thinks about an spiderman-retirement while Harry tries to convince him to get a job at the EMF. Peter said something about he needs to think about it and he needs a few weeks because of his other job. Also he wants to focus more on MJ and spend more time with her. In that one moment where Peter almost dies he apologized to MJ for not having enough time for her. And then when he had to fight Scream he learnt a lot of things about their relationship and he wants to change after it. And he knows that being Spiderman stoped him from that.

My take on this is Peter is definitely taking a step back and letting Miles take over as the main Spider-Man, with Peter kinda being on reserve. Only really joining in things Miles can’t do by himself and needs a second Spider-Man for, which will probably be Spider-Man 3 when Goblin joins the scene.

I wouldn't mind another Miles Morales game that took place between Spiderman 2 and 3. It gives Peter enough space to have his break as Spiderman, establishes Miles as New York's Spiderman, and gets Cindy involved. Finally, it can build something in the climax or something where Norman gets to start his crusade as Green Goblin.

If we get DLC like the first game, I can see the first 2 being centered around Miles getting his bearings on handling the city patrols on his own, dealing with the likes of someone like Chameleon. I do think we'll get some hints about Carnage in those two DLC, maybe Miles having a run in with him at the end of the second one. Because it's a Symbiote, he calls Peter for the 3rd one, asking for help since he doesn't have the Anti-Venom powers that Peter has, meaning we get both our Spidermen back for the 3rd DLC.

Peter initially when he met with Harry again and starting up with their Emily-May foundation, he would only focused on himself and Harry on “healing the world.” He ignored Miles for a bit and thought how only himself to become a “better spider man” for the city when he had the Symbiote. The moment Peter got saved and saw how Miles reformed his greatest enemy, Li. He saw that there was already someone “healing the world.” That was when he realized Miles was the “better spider man” that the city needed.

This, to me is one of the most important part of any superhero story, and Spider-man always does it so well. It's got to have heart. Yes, but this is simply because there are side quests exclusive to Peter Parker, so you need him to complete the game 100%. Canonically, Peter Probably does all the side quests before this scene. Many say Peter isn’t quitting because he is still playable after this, but if he were just taking a break, him being playable still would not make sense, which is why I don’t think Peter canonically does anything after this scene, despite still being playable. That being said… I think Peter is quitting, and I don’t think he will come back, though I hope he does because I have never liked Miles that much.

With great power comes great responsibility. And burning yourself out constantly isn’t responsible. Peter can’t help people if he doesn’t look after himself first. That’s basically what this whole game was about - his emotional turmoil led to the symbiote controlling him and nearly doing things that he couldn’t take back. Taking a break from being Spider-Man, in this context, I think is the most responsible choice. Especially since Miles is there to pick up the slack. Also it’s not like he’s gonna sit by and watch if someone’s about to get murdered. Like, he’s still gonna be a hero if he’s needed. And he’s obviously coming back in the third game. 😊

He is not quitting as miles said go be peter parker for a while so this means peter is not done being spiderman especially when green goblin is going to be in the next game
