We got to hang out with Peter Ross at his home in Pittsboro, NC when I went down to Roy Underhill's school in 2017. He & Roy are friends, so he stopped by Roy's school and invited the eight of us over to visit his private forge. Very cool experience!

This is useful information for those who wish to make or modify woodworking tools or hardware. This as understanding what a good fire is helps prevent problems when working at the forge... e.g., getting an even heat is important as it only heating the sections you want heated. Peter has been a good teacher over the decades... One I appreciate. I hope others do also.

Thank you for asking! Peter Ross is the host of our Blacksmithing for Woodworkers video series, that offers techniques and instructions for woodworkers to make their own hardware (hinges, handles) and tools (chisels & drawknives). Much like learning to steam bend, or do veneer work, we see this as a related skill that some woodworkers will want to explore. Check it out: www.shopwoodworking.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=forge

That. is. awesome. I wasn't aware of this video series until I just read this, but blacksmithing has been catching my eye recently. I'm glad you guys posted it here, and I'm glad Jerry asked the question that came to my mind as well.

Thanks for the heads-up. We've changed the link to an article about Peter, and his videos are linked at the bottom. Thanks!

WTF is this video doing on a woodworking channel? If I want to learn about firing up a forge I'll go to a blacksmithing channel.

Lance, woodworking is a hobby that often includes multiple skills. We become glass cutters, electricians and much more. Peter Ross is the host of our Blacksmithing for Woodworkers video series, that offers techniques and instructions for woodworkers to make their own hardware (hinges, handles) and tools (chisels & drawknives).
