Let's get into this B175 engine that has been standing outside since 1977!
My viewer Peter was lucky enough to rescue this bike and we will not rest until it lives again!
Best wishes,
Dean.

Totally enthralled watching the rescue of my engine! Thanks so much Dean. The care you take to make sure there's no further deterioration caused by the repair process is inspirational. We were on the edge of our seats as you tightened down the extractor tool. And what a horror show once they were cracked apart! The creature from the black lagoon would have felt right at home in that crusty, scabby case. We're definitely thinking of you and your family and hoping that everything goes to plan. Thanks again Peter

It is pouring with rain, I am waiting for parts and I have just paid a fortune to renew my US residency. I needed to see someone else having problems so this video was perfectly timed. Thank you.

Ah, memories!! I had a lump of 1" x 1/4" bent into a U shape for bantam clutches, and also used a three leg puller. Phil

A great demonstration how patience and trade skill pays off. Most "punters" would have completely mullered that engine getting it apart. That engine is completely salvageable, and I hope the owner makes the decision to continue with the rebuild. Has the chip come off the kickstart quadrant or ratchet being in that position on that side of the engine? You'll sort it anyway. There's not much effort required for the gearbox and the internals other than the crankcase look pristine.......You should see some of the "shitters" I have to deal with! Given what these engines are fetching it's certainly well worth repairing...........Hope all goes well this week........

Thanks Bones, I'm humbled by your comments and I take them as a real compliment. I agree, it is recoverable and it was amazing to open up such a low mileage engine, despite the environmental damage. I will keep you posted on the events this week. Have a great trip. Best wishes, Dean.

Nice work Dean, I think you enjoy making tools as much as me. Fine job. I like your puller cap idea, you will probably see some made over at my shop in the future. Man that crank is ruff!

Hey Dale, thanks very much. I enjoy having the facilities to make specific to type tools. We'll have to save this one, they are getting quite scarce. I think it will clean up. Best wishes, Dean.

the problem with easy-outs is that when the head of a bolt is sheared off and you drill into the remains, the easy-out tends to expand the shank of the bolt and jam it tighter. drilling into the head of a screw is better!
@retromechanicalengineer

I agree. It's better when the head is present. The worst location was under a helicopter cockpit floor, I drilled blind with a 90 degree pneumatic drill motor, whilst my colleague guided me....using a mirror! Best wishes, Dean.
