Great video! I love Greenspeed and happy to see they are still relevant.

Very informative video on the history of Greenspeed and the Magnum trike.

The magnums bottom bracket is below the seat height so you won't get numb feet or recumbent butt. I owned one in New Zealand for several years and it was a blast. As trike riders often do, I tried other trikes out of curiosity but the magnum might have been the best all rounder. Cheers.

Hi Peter, I'm in Australia and looking at buying a Greenspeed trike, you said in your video that the magnum bw is good to fit a rear hub motor, can I ask your opinion on the GT26 to fit a rear hub motor to it or the magnum 20?
@rossbrumby19573 жыл бұрын
Only negatives of my bw is because how they offset the rear wheel to the left- it pulls to the left vaguely while hands free. You can compensate by leaning left a little. They didn't align the rear guard with the wheel, so you have to bend the wire mounts on the left side so the tyre doesn't stick out. And with a rear rack on, the wheel shows well off centre from the rear, looking like it was made wrong. I bought the factory front guards and they dont follow the same angle as the wheels- the front and rear ends of each guard expose tread on the insides which slings water up my arms. Piss poor alignment for AU$290. That aside, it's tough as nails and will suit distance riding for me once I get the panniers and maybe make a trailer to tow.

Good comments Ross, thanks. The Greenspeed BW is a tough trike and well suited for distance riding. I’ll look forward to hearing what you decide between a rack/panniers and a trailer. I have not noticed the BW pulling to the left - but here in the states we ride on the right, so my BW pulls right. If you are in OZ and riding left, could it be the slope of the lane you are feeling? We have not noticed the BW front fender miss-alignment. Greenspeed’s US warehouse has been out of front mud guards since our BWs arrived. Sounds like the front fenders may have been designed for a different model and adapted. Yes, the BW rear wheel is offset to the left. I was surprised to me Ian didn’t move the fender to match. He explained his reasoning to me at his last RCC show, I didn’t quite follow his logic. The fender is visibly off center, looking slightly od.

Nice review for a trike that really has a very specific market niche. The folding and disassembly is unfortunately a big turnoff for many folks who find motivation tough to get out and ride. A trike rack or suv is the real answer. I bought a new Catrike 559 so I could fold it and put it in a full size sedan and it was such a nuisance removing wheels and greasing up and destroying my interior that I immediately went to a hitch and trike rack then quickly proceeded to a large suv with the trike rack so I can either slide it right inside unfolded or 99% of the time just put it on the rack. That trike definitely has a place for the larger and less nimble rider. Folding trikes is relatively easy but still a pain in the butt.

Good point, Mark! In my experience everyone wants a folding trike but few end up folding it very often.

@@GarySolomon …spot on.last winter when I drove my 559 to Florida I folded it and slid it easily inside my Highlander. I got to Florida and in the long drive a piece of luggage slid and bent and destroyed my derailleur . Catrike found me the only one in the marketplace with a merchant in Colorado who shipped it to me. If that happens this year then you are not riding for a year because none are in existence. FYI….I put the trike outside on my Hitchrider rack for the ride home. No problems. Both my 559 and 700 fit inside unfolded with the seats down but I won’t even do that unless weather looks threatening.

Great machines! But remember: If you order one for the U.S, The Aussies drive on the correct (left hand side), of the road, so you need to order a Right-Hand-Drive model ;-) ! (SLAP Wrist Cahill! Must not take the Micky out of unfortunate American Cousins 😃) Thank you Peter and Gary!

Ha! You make mostly good comments here with the one major exception being the "on the wrong side of the road" argument😉 I can tell you from experience that taking a "right" sider and putting him on the left side leads to some very anxious driving!

@@GarySolomon Many moons ago I had an LHD MotorHome. On a short trip over to Holland, while pulling out on a side road I was distracted by my passenger, then wondered why the car coming towards me was flashing his lights like mad! Yup, Thinks: "Idiot!, You are in Europe, and on the wrong side of the road!!" Didn't make THAT mistake again! Some kinds of excitement I can do without !

Removing wheels is a bit much
@rossbrumby19573 жыл бұрын
2 seconds is a bit much? I have a magnum big wheel and those quick detach hubs are the best. Every few weeks i pull the front wheels off to check how the brakes are bedding in- looks like it'll take another 3 months ( only done 650km in 3 months so far) brake shoes will last the life of the bike probably, unlike disc pads.

@@rossbrumby1957 Those push button wheels are part of the reason this will be my next trike.
