I re-watched it again recently, too, only a few days before Maggie Smith died. I think I prefer 'Death on the Nile', but that's partly because the music is superior, imo.

Hi! Marina. When I heard Ustinov was doing his one man show in Adelaide, 2001, think it was, I must have been first to buy tickets. Was front row, center, loved every minute. A night I'll never forget. Xx

“Laughter is the most civilized music in the world.” That’s only one of the many wise sayings of this brilliant. He’s the age of my parents, but I always had a huge crush on him. He’s a fascinating and extremely multi-talented person. I haven’t seen his whole body of work but I do have about 10 DVDs of his major roles, and, of course, his biography “Dear Me.” Thank you for this presentation of such a special human being.

He clearly had a great time on 'The Muppet Show' when he appeared on it. I loved the sketch he did with Fozzie Bear, teaching 'economic theory'.

I love David Suchet and I'm fine with him being the quintessential Poirot but I grew up in the 80s (both watching the films and reading Agatha's books) and Ustinov is my Poirot. I still love watching his Poirot films and TV movies immensely.

I'm pleased you covered his hilarious turn as Prince John in Disney's Robbin Hood. He was also Blake Edward's first choice to play Inspector Clouseau in the Pink Panther films.

Exactly! Quite a curious reason he had to withdraw his candidature

Thanks Marina. Frankly I have never been able to distinguish the actor from the man, no matter how cultivated and polished he was. I think he had made cynicism his métier and was almost sure that people were not well read enough to understand half of what he was talking about and this with a certain contempt; but at the same time he was always advocating the illiterate members of society; too cosmopolitan for his own good.😂

Can’t agree at all. I think Ustinov was universally admired as a cultured and compassionate man.
