I’ve been singing this song for quite a while - to my friends and family who are evangelicals and STILL support Trump! Cannot figure out, as a Christian myself, how the heck they reconcile this. I was always able to see - from the very beginning of his candidacy - how blatantly amoral he was and is, so it’s hard to fathom why it isn’t obvious to everyone.

If you can convince yourself that God exists and is an omnipotent being, jumping on the Trump bandwagon isn't such a leap, they exist in adoration of the Lord, they've just switched that on to Trump and now have so much invested in him that no matter how bad it gets they have decided to try to save face by backing him. Evangelical Christianity sometimes teaches conflicting gospel which laves people with cognitive dissonance and the idea that one should Believe rather than. experience the Divine leads people to be able to believe contradictory ideas and it can feel normal to them to think this way

In 1948 POTUS Truman signed Executive Order 9981-desegregating all branches of the military. He fought the democratic party at his presidential nomination about civil rights. Move to 1960s. POTUS Johnson. When signing the Civil Rights Act 1964 famously stated the democratic party had lost the South. Which is exactly what occurred. If the GOP openly supported civil rights, why would they jump ship? POTUS Nixon-GOP. The GOP implementation of the southern strategy. Soliciting white voters by embracing racism against blacks. Thus was confirmed by Lee Atwater in the 1990s. His confession before dying of cancer. Today? Explain the GOP's focus on CRT. I've repeatedly asked 45 supporters about his awesome economic policies and if they can point me to a chart where you can see what 45 did. I mean, I checked myself because I was curious. Our economy was trucking along since the recession and he didn't change the chart path much at all. The way they describe it, there should be a hockey stick. Those that can be made to believe absurdities can be made to commit atrocities. Especially when they think they have the power to bring about the end of their story. In my opinion, no one that warbles about "sin" or "redemption" will be much missed from the world.

My brother got thrown out or his church when he amidtted that he was a registered Democrat, it really cut him deep because he thought he found a house od worship that he belonged to, and that was over 25 years ago.

I think that what you're seeing is a difference between Christianity and religion. If you truly want to follow the teachings of Christ you will be the loving, inclusive person that he preaches. Help the poor, sick and strangers. Religion has organized into a political action group that wants money, power and doesn't have a moral compass. As long as their needs are met and their leaders are getting rich off of it...their good and will allow whatever it takes to keep their power.

The most important phrase in your post is "and their leaders are getting rich off of it". That is another reason Trump is drawn to the Evangelicals, he can see and respect a fellow conman, especially if they let him in on the action.
