I've been at this almost 26 years, fixing, repairing and replacing on our equipment and I am still convinced that you've forgotten more than I've learned, 😂. You're knowledge of internals and how things work is insane.

I am an old man. I constantly watch youtube videos. I worked the automobile, truck trade for many years. No hesitation, you are the most versatile man I have ever seen. You can drive it, fix it, repair it, run the office and business. Can't tell you how impressed I am with you. Keep it up. I love your videos and envy your abilities. Pete

I recently ran across your videos and yes I am now subscribed to it. I’m extremely impressed by your skills because 99. 9% of drivers and owners don’t have a freaking clue how to do much more than checking their oil. I’m a mechanic and I have my own mechanic shop but we mainly work on tugboats and barges much larger diesel engines and I also have another business with dump trucks excavators dozers and a couple tractors. I understand just how much work and headaches it takes to keep everything running and running smoothly. Good luck in the future

Old Red is still looking gorgeous man. Smart idea using the drill press manually to make sure the tap is completely square. It's definitely easy using a hand drill to be slightly off center/ off level when starting to tap the threads. Nice work as always Ezra and thank you for sharing! Keep her shiny side up 👍😁

I replace compressors once a year on each truck. These new ones seem to have one year obsolescence built into them, being made in red China doesn't help. I bought the Sanden compressors and retro fit kits for the trucks and that is getting done within the month. Great vid as usual Ezra. Stay safe brother

Good to see some interesting content on a Saturday AM. So, I have an idea. A couple actually. First, in the case of the AC compressor for the little additional time needed to create on your part perhaps expand on the theme. Find an old pooched compressor and tear it down to its innards then rebuild. Sell it after if you do not need the part. You are winning here because you have an incredible ability to explain the "how to" part of the business. Same goes for any system or part / repair. Everyone who watched this segment is better for the time invested. Second, you can do short segments. Easily done with light editing if any at all from your driving day. Keep it at 5 -7 minutes dropped as needed. More paying content. Both you and TwinSticks are setting the bar for this trailer trucking content.

Try heating your used crush washer cherry red to anneal it before re-use. Do not quench. They work harden.
@ruaraidhmcdonald-walker95243 жыл бұрын
Just heat them the copper washers in a flame and then quench them. That will re-anneal them so re-use is a wee bit better. If they’re scarred though then new best!! Great to see Old Red still coming back together.

@mikeshultz10073 жыл бұрын
I really like you chuck key for the drill press, is that original or did someone braze it together like that. You can get a refrigerant scale for probably 50 bucks and that is the most accurate way to charge a system. Charging based on pressure is actually extremely inaccurate.

Here's a lesson for everyone on what not to do.. If It's the wrong compressor, send it back and get the correct one.. Modifying by drilling and tapping holes avoids warranty and remember, there needs to be o-rings to seal the system and o-rings usually fit into pre-shaped recesses that are made by the compressor manufacturer...Use a qualified tradesperson.
@Ezrider3593 жыл бұрын
warranties generally are not worth the paper there written on void the warranty boo hoo. the fittings used a copper crush washer not a o ring but that also doesn't mean anything, as far as use a qualified tradesperson, i don't work on other peoples stuff only my own but thanks anyway.

The original a/c was charged with R12. Did you switch to R134 and what did you do to make the switch like flushing the system or changing the evaporator? Or had this already been done when you got the truck?

Do you also need to replace the dryer/condenser?
@Ezrider3593 жыл бұрын
dryer should be replaced any time the system is opened up.
@jaredmayer39603 жыл бұрын
If you vac it good moisture leaves the dryer desiccant bag. I’ve never seen one that really needed to be changed. The system runs at more than atmospheric pressure all the time and can’t really get “air” into it. I agree that you’re supposed to change the dryer out but I never have.

What type of Freon did you use in your A/C system? My 1994 Peterbilt 379 ex-hd was equipped for the use of R12 Freon & was the last year it was used. I had the truck until 2017 & never had it converted to the 134 Freon. My truck being a 1994 still had the small condenser below the Air to Air Cooler. The shop that worked on my truck told me with the small A/C condenser that the 134 Freon would cool but not as good as the original R12 Freon. He still sold & worked with the R12 so I kept using it. I could keep cool on any warm day even if running against the sun. I also had very little trouble with the R12 leaking down compared to the newer trucks with the 134 Freon. The R12 wasn't cheap but boy did it COOL.
