I have the original Trailmaster in Carbon V and it has the convex grind. It cuts amazingly. You are wrong about the shape of the knife being identical. The original Trailmaster has a much thicker clip point and the 5/16" stock goes out further towards the tip before the distal taper begins.

I’ve never owned a Trailmaster but I know it’s a beast from all the reviews and testing ppl have done. It’s 3V so you know it’s super badass! 🔥🔪🤘

How about a side by side with the trailmasters and the SP5. I have a marbles trail maker blade. It is the knife the SP5 is modeled after. I just need to make a handle and sharpen it. Old American made marbles had convex grinds. I’m really wondering how the 3v holds up. Haven’t had a good experience myself. It’s great you got one. Every place I’ve looked they were sold out. Kinda wish I got the recon when midway had a sale they were $200. Seems nowadays everything is crazy priced. I love my 151s I have 2 also really I don’t see a downside to them. To bad they stopped making them.

The convex grind is why I like fallknivens. But I have the f1 and a1 in vg 10 and the s1 in vg10w. But anyways one day I did a beater test outside on a dry deer shoulder bone the dog drug in and all the fallknivens chipped besides the a1. My buck 119 chipped bad. My bark river bravo 1lt in cruwear chipped. A puma bowie in 440c did not chip. A mora garberg stainless chipped bad. But surprisedly the a1 did great. But it is a bit thick behind the edge but no worse then the garberg is.

It's all about perspective and use. The chipping on VG1 is almost always caused by rock, sand, dirt,bone etc. It's always someone over swinging and contacting hard media. The 3v won't chip usually because of this but will roll.

Don't forget to add the Fallkniven Modern Bowie as another clone of the Good ol Trail Master! I am debating on getting one, but I have so many that I don't have the time to test. Just love a big knife in convex, and the San Mai lll VG1 is too brittle. I hamy recon Tanto and SRK in San Mai VG10 which are decent but I prefer my CPM-3V versions.
