I finally got my hands on an actual OptiCom 3M Preemption Sensor. In this video I will do a teardown & revers-engineering of an actual OptiCom. I tested it against many different types of light signals including my now famous Flipper IR Array. I also introduce a new device, a modified $12 tactical flashlight, that can also trigger an OptiCom 3M Preemption Sensor. Business enquiries please contact me here: contact@commandergateway.com

No offense, but you're flat out wrong. Kali covers the most distance post install. Most other distros still need hping3 installed and I just don't think I should have to do that out of the box. Especially when I can just spin up a VM on one of my many servers. Heck, I''ve given it the rails on a dual Xeon pizza box before. Coming from a guy who's been using CentOS in the field for more than 150 clients for the past 6 years. Time = money and some of us are already making money with this wannabe-1337 distro that you have some sort of personal vendetta for. Either way, I've gotta get back to counting my cash like Scrooge Mcduck 💰💰💰💰💰

Apparently, here in Australia, we have the same things on our traffic lights, except they look like upside down cones on the top of the poles. I've been driving trucks for almost 30 years and the strange thing is, whenever I see an emergency vehicle approach a red light, NEVER have I seen the light go green. Instead the emergency vehicle slows down, weaves through traffic, mounts a curb if need be and then blasts its horns and sirens as it carefully goes through a red light.

Any ideas on how the radio shack strobe light is timed? If it's just a pot in front of a cap or several, would reducing the cap values to half of the original not give you double the frequency, which you then attenuate slightly to bring the duty cycle down to 14.035Hz, or thereabouts?

What's really funny. There was a guy that had a really old car and he wanted to put LED bulbs in. The bulbs called for some kind of circuitry to be connected between them and the headlight connectors to smooth out the signal coming to the bulbs so they didn't flicker. He use the electronics on the low beams. But he didn't put them in his high beams. Not all the time. But sometimes when he flashes his headlights. He can trigger the stoplights in our town. He doesn't abuse it but he figured it out one day he was driving at night and he flashed somebody to let them know they could switch lanes. traffic lights in my area have a bright light that turns on when they're triggered. He noticed that the stop light in front of him turned its light on and turned green. He then described to me how he went around town and randomly did it to try and prove himself wrong. He said it only works like 2 out of five times but every time it works it works exactly like the cops.

If I'm approaching an intersection and the light's green. I use my opticom to keep the light green until I get through the intersection, then turn it off. NEVER, EVER USE AN OPTICOM DEVICE ON A RED LIGHT! THAT A SUREFIRE WAY TO GET BUSTED!
@lucasthompson1650

If an intersection has any sort of photographic camera (CCTV, traffic analytics, speed camera, etc) you should even steer clear of keeping the green light enabled. I think there are also opticom units with integrated cameras that can be configured to snap a photo to associate with each logged event.

@@peterfairlie2296 this info is amazing, I was looking everywhere to try and find some kind of protocol which interleaves vehicle class and id info but couldn't find it anywhere and your explanation makes sense. Where did you get this info of it not being implemented as a security lock? Is it just from you messing around with it or do you have some top secret inside sources? I have read on certain documents from the manufacturer that Opticom systems can be programmed to not trigger without the programmed id's in the base 10 or 14hz signal. I assume that certain cities probably just have a few class and id numbers stored just to prevent such easy triggering of the system.

Update: a lot of cities in Florida have the Opticom sensors and I have programmed an mcu to pulse a 14hz signal. It doesn't work and I know that its not on my part because I tested my device extensively. Either the sensors are out of commission, or they have the ID code trigger enabled which I believe is the case. Out of all the videos I've seen on KZbin, most of the ones that I've seen work are in northern states such as Pennsylvania. I don't know if this is necessarily true but when I visit new York soon I will test it in surrounding ares.

Instead of modding a flashlight for those that fear mechanical tampering stuff, one could probably just take a raspberry pi and have a led flashing with a small python program? import RPi.GPIO as GPIO import time GPIO.setmode(GPIO.BCM) GPIO.setwarnings(False) GPIO.setup(18, GPIO.OUT) frequency = 14 # in Hz time_period = 1 / frequency while True: GPIO.output(18, GPIO.HIGH) time.sleep(time_period / 2) GPIO.output(18, GPIO.LOW) time.sleep(time_period / 2)

@lucasthompson1650
@lucasthompson1650 9 ай бұрын
@@blakexe it must have more than just 4 resistors on the board -- "have you looked on both sides?" is what my old EEng teacher would ask. I'm just gonna take an 'edumacated' guess that it has at least 1 OpAmp (very tiny black chip, 3 pins) and either an integrated driver chip or some sort of timer IC ( tiny black chip, with 4 or 6 or 8 pins ) plus a capacitor or two -- at least 1 between the battery +IN and the rest of the board. This is what most cheap and cheap-ish tactical flashlights have inside these days, and while they might be able to be adjusted to work like this, they can't be modded as easily, or the same way, as the one Peter used in this video. I suggest looking at dirt-cheap PWM LED driver boards... for $3 or so you can get a board that will let you control the duty cycle and PWM frequency (typically up to ~150kHz) of any 5 to 12VDC device you plug into it. You can find them on Ali express, amazon, digikey, mouser, etc. If you can extend your budget up to $8 or $10 you should be able to find a PWM driver board that you can easily control from an Arduino or Raspberry Pi using Python or C or whatever the hell the kids are using these days... Rust? :p With programmatic or API control, the number of traffic light hacking, vehicle engine timing, seizure inducing patterns you can execute will be limitless. 😜

Except most of the newer ones have encoded pulses so people can’t do this. And they have certain encoded sequences that apply to certain cars people depts. And so many intersections are monitored with cameras these days. Most. And a lot of intersections have white lights that come on above the signal to indicate a trigger. Which turns off the second you clear. So it’s pretty obvious that you weren’t a emergency vehicle. And they carry big fines for using it. And cities have traffic lights that are all centrally controlled and can instantly see a trigger and get eyes on who triggered.
