As a Vespa rider I have a vague interest in these but it’s range would have to increase significantly before it would become an option. I commute over thirty miles a day, I tour, nether is realistic on the Electrica. Last I heard it has less than sixty miles in the battery. Good for going to the corner shop but for even moderate use it’s going to be on charge most of its life.
@PeterLoweOne Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think I'm with you. I like that this exists... As a manufacturer, you need a solid first attempt at an electric vehicle, and this is that. For many scooter users, this would work. For me, I would want this to have speed comparable to a Primavera 150, some more range, and a little lower price. It's a lot like the current crop of electric pickup trucks. They're good! But they're a little expensive, and the range that I would want in a truck isn't enough for me just yet. The fact that this exists is good, it means that future versions will be better. It's an interesting space to watch!
@zerocool645212 күн бұрын
For a scooter this one has more than enough range, it just isn't made for the unnecessarily large cities the North America has. It is perfect for european ones. However as a Cake owner even I think this one is a tad bit expensive.
@peterwilliamson42968 ай бұрын
As an older rider I would definitely consider one. I realise its more expensive than a petrol scooter but I think the feel good factor of owning and riding one would be rather appealing.

I’m just wondering, are the batteries replaceable? If so, is it doable by a user or only technician? Approx cost of a battery? Thinking of product life over time.
@PeterLoweOne Жыл бұрын
The batteries would be replaceable. On the Piaggio 1 scooter, they can be lifted out by the user, but on this, it's not quick release. As far as the battery cost, I'm not sure, but as with electric cars, the cost of the battery today is likely going to be quite a bit more before someone would have to replace it. They are coming down in price regularly. Having said that, battery longevity will be something to watch with all of these electrified vehicles.

I love Vespa It Should Have Range Of 500+So That
@PeterLoweOne Жыл бұрын
500 plus?!?? That's a lot more than most people would ever need, and with today's technology, it would make the bike pretty heavy. I think if they offered it with 200 kms, it would begin to have REAL mass appeal, but keep in mind it would be prohibitively expensive with that kind of range and today's battery prices.
@Narinjas Жыл бұрын
~200 miles with ~15 minutes 20% to 80% charge would be enough, if cheap, and at least ~6 seconds 0-60mph and a top speed of ~95 mph.

Great question. No, these are only set up to work with a regular plug. It should take about 4 hours to charge, so the good news is, you don't need to find a fast charger to get it to work, all you need is a plug, but the flip side is that you can't fast charge.

I never do the price on my videos because these videos are online forever, but pricing can change. The link in the description to this video will take you to the Jim Gilbert's PowerSports website, and that will always have up to date pricing. As far as range, that's listed on the Vespa website, but to be honest, I'm not sure that I trust their numbers. I want more experience with this bike to understand the actual range. I've got a LOT of experience working with electric cars, and aerodynamics and weight play a big role in range of these 4000 lb plus cars. When you look at a scooter, the difference in aerodynamics between someone wearing a baggy windbreaker which acts like a sail, and a fitted T-Shirt is going to have a big impact on aerodynamics, and if you have a 120 lb rider or a 240 lb rider, in theory, range should be effected, but by how much? I don't have that information, so I wanted to leave it out until I learned more.

Are you getting the US models? because on ROBOT'S channel, he is in California, kzbin.info/www/bejne/hp2oY5WLlMyBepo he says the USDOT requires those turn signal pods whereas in other markets, in the rear, the turn signals are either amber lens port and starboard of the brake light or clear lens with amber bulbs/LEDs, on the front the turn signals are inside the shell/bodywork, port and starboard of the headlamp area. I'd like to know the import restrictions as to model selection. Can odometer/trip meter be custom set to miles/temperatures to °F like on my other bike and car can?
@PeterLoweOne Жыл бұрын
So I'm not sure of the regulations, but there are different regulating bodies between the U.S. and Canada. I'd have to look into things to see if ours are a different spec than the U.S. As far as switching between KM to Miles etc. That shouldn't be an issue. I'll double check tomorrow, but I'm almost positive that you can switch it.

Very small range because the eco mode is limiting the top speed too much and therefore is almost useless. Now imagine when the battery starts to wear off. Very low performance. I think Piaggio released that one mostly for promotional reasons.

Nah they released it since they are going forward and offer EV models too. Lower range is expected on all vehicles like this be it from Cake, Surron, NIU, YADEA etc it works everywhere that isn't the US or Canada.

I don't know. People who bought the original Tesla Roadster didn't feel like it was a big waste of money. This isn't aimed at the average Vespa driver. It's a solid first attempt at an electric vehicle, and for the right person, it has value. I have a lot of experience with electric vehicles and own one fully electric vehicle and one plug in hybrid electric vehicle, and it's the same thing. The tech is good, but I'm not ready to spend the money to buy an F-150 Lightning electric truck, and I feel the same about this scooter.
