Pete! this was a great video! not only because Garrett (by the way I recommend his DVLOP photo course, I learned a lot from it!) but also because it covered so much in a very nice and easy going conversation. I'm sure the 50K will grow quickly. One of my go to lenses is actually the 50mm kit 1.8 lens from the EOSRP and I like it, but that 1.2 would be amazing!

Needed to see this video honestly. Been wracking my brain on figuring out how to grow on IG and after following Garrett for years now and hearing him say all this, it's such a great reminder on why I pursued photography/videography in the first place: personal growth, not business growth. Gonna stick to what makes me happy and fulfilled, instead of the algorithm. Thank you Peter

Been a photographer for years and my main focus was trying to grow on Instagram all those years and it became draining and had me second guessing if I even loved photography, had to take a step back and learn there are so many other ways to gain clients and eyes and at the end of the day I’m only gonna find peace and grow doing it for myself 🤝🏽
@eneafinch88952 жыл бұрын
strangely, instragram played a major role in getting me INTO photography. And I could see nice, steady growth socially and also growth in my skills over time with more and more practice. But now insta has almost totally died to me. The love for photography is still in me, but I often don't feel like lifting a finger anymore with this app because it is not worth it at all. I HOPE they decide at some point to stop trying to be a tiktok.

@@eneafinch8895 honestly couldn’t have said it better myself, now that I look back Instagram definitely played a huge role in my interest in it . Truly but like how you feel It just is damn near dead to me now man

Shortstache will forever be the goat. However, I've given up trying to grow on instagram and instead have been focusing on growing my business. As a photographer they are not one and the same. There are hundreds of other ways to attract a loyal and devoted following than using Instagram. I would argue that it's actually more of a distraction at this point.

Do you have any tips on how to start a business for an amateur photographer? Im trying to grow on instagram to help but I hop on and see this lol
@garrhetsampson2 жыл бұрын
@@zachvinan213 Oh for sure. Start by searching KZbin for "how to grow your business without social media." There's some great books on this but one overlooked gem is "Guerilla Marketing" by Jay Conrad Levinson. It all comes down to dominating your local area. Having a website and a portfolio with some solid business cards is money in your pocket. Personally reach out to serve businesses and other creators in your niche. Give away quick brand shoots or host events to create content. From my experience no one successful in the photo industry started without that as a base. Heck, even Peter started in the wedding industry.

I'm glad to finally hear someone say to shoot in any light and conditions. For years videos have said only shoot at golden hour and not in harsh light and basically said there's only two hours out of your day to shoot. I never listened to this, I always tried to learn how to shoot in all conditions and while I don't think I'm a fantastic photographer, I do think I am a lot more fearless when shooting.

Man!!! So cool to see Pete, Matti, and the crew on the Westcoast 🤘🏻🤘🏻. I feel like finding and maintaining a style is the hardest part of creating. Like Garett said, it’s really easy to see the trends and try and chase them. The real skill comes from sticking to something you love and mastering it!

Love when you introduce people on your channel and give me someone new to follow. ShortStache (Garret) you have a new follower from Ohio! Just switch from Sony to a CanonR6 and bought the nifty fifty RF to have some native glass. Great lens and am loving this range. I watch every PM video I never comment but when you see your 2 favorites artist get together in the same video it’s impossible not to. Garrett King is the reason I purchased a camera Peter is the reason I shoot videos. Garrett was selling his Sigma 24 1.4 E-mount lens a couple years ago. As soon as I saw it I messaged him with a question about the lens. He answered almost immediately. I got my funds in order and messaged him the next day to see if it was still available and it was gone. Wish I would have been quicker. That lens would be on a shelf like a trophy. It’s awesome to see you two to incredible creatives together for the first time. I thank both of you for pulling me into what is now my favorite thing to do!
