How amazing is it that Dafne Keen went from playing a bad role in The Acolyte, to reprising a good role in Deadpool & Wolverine? It must be very good timing that Deadpool & Wolverine premiered three weeks after her last episode of The Acolyte, and one week after the last episode of the season aired. If Dafne Keen or fans of her wished that she was playing Laura X-23 from Logan again instead of wasting her time playing Jecki Lon in The Acolyte, then their wish came true much sooner than expected when she got to start reprising Laura in Deadpool 3 about a month after she finished playing Jecki Lon in The Acolyte. It could also be seven months if her Deadpool & Wolverine scenes were in the second half of filming after the 2023 actors strike ended. July 28, 2024, 5:17pm

**SPOILERS** I really liked X-23. She was more mature here, had her story, she's still around in case they wanna use her, yet she was never in danger of replacing Wolverine or telling him off, actually being one of the characters who believes in him the most. THAT's how you do a younger generation character.

🥰Good for her! How lovely. Dafne Keen really needed and deserved this golden opportunity to play Laura X-23 again. It must be a good start to make up for her having to suffer playing Jecki Lon in The Acolyte. The fact that Disney has not yet fumbled the bag on X-Men in X-Men '97 and Deadpool & Wolverine, and even allowed Dafne Keen to reprise her character from Logan to be seen again after The Acolyte finished airing, is refreshing proof to me that creativity is not entirely outlawed at Disney forever. There are still some good filmmakers for Disney that are allowed to have the right sort of creative control. Some good male-centric films are still allowed to exist these days and escape the cruel grasp of ESG scores. July 28, 2024, 4:54pm

She would be a great next step in the Wolverine story. I think it would be better to have her, as she is an established character. Than replace Hugh, with another male character. He is the Wolverine, plain and simple.

At the end Deadpool asked for the TSA to bring along some friends from the void, and X-23 made it to the dinner table. I think that implies she is going to be a mainstay in the new X-Men MCU. Given the story is about the TSA asking for Deadpool to jump from the dying timeline (Fox) to the sacred timeline (MCU), the TSA is pretty much an analogy to Disney, so when Deadpool talked to the TSA at the end it felt like he's talking to Disney.

I love it when a movie or a television show is successful because the celebrity talent at hand embraces the material they were given and uses their acting skills to the production's advantage. That is how an actor can make you feel like they directed or wrote a film or a show, even when they did not. In my opinion, this is also how Kat Dennings carried a majority of the comedy for 2 Broke Girls.

I do want to give Disney money for Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine, and I already have because I am sensible enough to consider the fact that even when the same media conglomerate owns them, X-Men '97, Inside Out 2 and Deadpool 3 have a MUCH different team of directors, producers and writers than the Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated activists behind Echo and The Acolyte, which is why the Inside Out and Deadpool sequels deserve to be treated with more dignity and respect - because the people who made those products treated we, the audience with more dignity and respect than the people who made Echo and The Acolyte in the same year. Not watching Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine to avoid giving Disney any money because of Echo and The Acolyte, would be as illogical as not watching Barbie or Wonka to avoid giving Warner any money because of Velma and The Flash. There is no reason that good filmmakers deserve to suffer the same punishment as bad filmmakers who were hired to make something bad for the same media corporation. Valuable people with genuine talent who are more than just a DEI hire deserve to be rewarded for their efforts, instead of being held guilty by association with a company that hired other people for DEI points. @@adampkalb there is a difference between a company making political agendas a fixture of the company (Disney) and a company that has outliers (Warner). Disney has exceptions to their DEI agenda while Warner has DEI exceptions. As a company Warner is not pushing an agenda. Disney is. When you support good filmmakers in an agenda driven company the profits are used to fuel their agenda. They will not see a success and abandon their agenda to pursue profit over agenda. Their agenda is who they are, their identity. They cannot give it up. DEI is a cult. Supporting them in any fashion just provides fuel to the majority of their projects. Your reasoning is sound for Warner but not for Disney. These companies are on opposite sides of the spectrum.
@adampkalb
@adampkalb 2 ай бұрын
@@arthurpendragon3000 Do not act like Velma is just an outlier for Warner. Do you not remember the awful CW shows Batwoman and Gotham Knights? Do not pretend that the DEI agenda is only a fixture of Disney when Paramount and the BBC commit the same offenses by also ruining Star Trek and Doctor Who with lazy diversity, equity and inclusion. I think the BBC is pushing the same agenda as Disney for wanting women to take over science-fiction even when they are not qualified for the job. I hate that you think Disney does not deserve to be rewarded for making any good new films, just because you assume the worst about it and you do not want to reward good filmmakers just because of their association with a certain company. Paying to watch Deadpool 3 because it is a genuinely good comic book superhero film, and also writing reviews explaining that it is a good film not only because of superficial check boxing reasons (like nostalgic cameos or female leaders), is the only way we can push a counter-message against Doofenshmirtz Evil, Inc. and Sweet Baby, Inc. to show Hollywood executives what makes a truly marketable film that is enjoyed by the masses among the target audience of that film. You could do the alternative solution of not watching any films that come from any Disney film studio until they are completely extinct and out of money, but it will take a huge movement for a mass exodus of movie theaters for that plan to be effective at all. People who can afford to go to the movies on weekends will buy tickets for movies that interest them, and being a Disney joint does very little to deter the human nature of being attracted to seeing quality movies, even in this year. So I am not sorry to tell you that Disney is not yet completely finished with movie theaters after Wish. Disney as a multimedia brand is only as dead as Anne Boonchuy and Marcy Wu in Amphibia - which is to say that we briefly thought The Walt Disney Company was dead after we saw its lowest point(s) with our own eyes, but miraculously, Disney did not stay dead. If you watched Logan before Disney bought Fox, then I am sure Dafne Keen would want you to watch her play Laura again in Deadpool & Wolverine because it has much better directors and writers than her previous role of Jecki Lon in The Acolyte. @@arthurpendragon3000 Clearly you forgot about the awful CW shows Batwoman and Gotham Knights, unless you also count those as outliers. But we should not ignore that Paramount and BBC have committed the same offenses as Disney has done with Star Wars, by pushing their own DEI agendas onto Star Trek and Doctor Who. I think the same political agenda that is a fixture of Disney is also a fixture of the BBC, where they want to hire more female writers to write science fiction regardless of how qualified they are to make Doctor Who. I hate that you think good filmmakers who made Deadpool & Wolverine do not deserve to be rewarded for their efforts because of their association with a certain entertainment company that no longer stands to be an entertainment company. I would hate this even more if you turned out to be true. Showing up to watch Deadpool & Wolverine in theaters because it is a great film, and then writing positive reviews that explain why it is a good movie for the right reasons, reasons that are not superficial like nostalgic cameos and female action heroes, stating specific reasons that you liked a film that go beyond ESG scores, beyond the agendas of Doofenshmirtz Evil Inc. and Sweet Baby Inc., explaining that you liked a film for not having that agenda among other reasons for liking the film is the best way I know to teach Disney and the rest of Hollywood at large what makes a profitable success for a film in the twenty-first century. You can stick with your alternative solution to not give money to any new Disney movies until every single Disney film studio goes extinct and runs out of money to make any more films, but it will take a huge movement and a mass exodus of movie theaters for that plan to be effective at all. Realistically speaking, it is very hard to change the human nature of going to movie theaters. People who can afford to watch movies on the weekends will do so because people are attracted to good movies with stories that truly interest them and characters that really captivate them. Some of those films coming from Disney does very little to deter their success. Before 2014 a new film coming from Disney was a very good sign of potential success, now in 2024 Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine are beginning to turn the tide back in that direction. If you liked watching Dafne Keen play Laura in Logan before Disney bought Fox and took over the X-Men, then she definitely deserves your attention if you want to see Laura again in Deadpool & Wolverine, which she definitely deserved after The Acolyte wasted her talent on Jecki Lon. Dafne Keen would not want you to ignore Deadpool & Wolverine just because you think it will fund Disney to make another abysmal agenda-driven series like Echo and The Acolyte. Contrary to those two shows, X-Men '97 was very good for Disney+ and paired with Deadpool & Wolverine, they show that some of Disney's Marvel Studios writers have a good idea of what to do with the X-Men. I learned it is better to take the bitter with the sweet, than to take the sweet without the bitter just because you think the sweet will only fund the bitter last longer. July 29, 2024, 10:33am

I actually couldn't tell if they'll come out on top before being snuffed out of existence. Fitting with the meta nature of Deadpool though, half of my worry came from thinking "oh no, is it time for that part of the piece of media where it dishounours our favourite characters to SUBVERT EXPECTATIONS". I was very glad when heroes prevailed one by one and got together. It was a very warm movie in a way. Haven't felt that way while watching a movie in a long time.

If Disney's CEO has any sense whatsoever, he will realize that the success of Inside Out 2 and Deadpool 3, and the real reason they made 1 billion dollars is slightly deeper, yet more simple than more cameos or more sequels. They were just made by people who knew how to write a great film that people will love because it did not insult them with another message about identity politics. They were made by competent filmmakers who had a solid foundation with a good creative story, and also knew when to crack a good joke without messing up the pacing of the stories told in their films. That is how better stories and better humor equal more money, not just the number of cameos or which sequel number it is, although those factors do help quite a bit. July 28, 2024, 4:42pm

I find very unfortunate that this movie is killing at the box office. Had it flopped, it could have been a huge opportunity for Hollywood to reevaluate its m.o. and go back to taking risks with new and original ideas. But no, the success of Deadpool3 will guarantee another 5 years of destroying old franchises in the altar of The Message, while throwing the fans a bone every once in a while (Deadpool 3, Spider Man Home 3, etc) to recoup some of the lost money.

They're doing the same thing we've seen done with the multiverse for the last few years. The only difference is, they made it fun. And yeah the F bombs and violence are gratuitous. Maybe toooooo gratuitous in places? Yeah I know that was the point. And I'm also very frustrated we didn't get X-23 in her costume. And one last thing... Remember in the first Deadpool when he went to a strip club? Remember the sex scenes between he and his girlfriend? We ain't getting any of that in the MCU ever. Sure they made the joke about no cocaine, but they have another big no no. They only want to show the men topless. Never the ladies. Yeah this will easily win them a billion dollars, and rightfully so. And it may not save the MCU, but I dearly hope the execs and shareholders realize that maybe giving the fans what they want occasionally is a good idea. Go figure.

I watched it in 3D this afternoon and really enjoyed the hell out of it. And, wow, they didn’t hold back insofar as openly criticizing the post-Endgame MCU. I will say, Disney, to their credit, didn’t sensor it - but that was ballsy. Nicely done.

Jackman stands 6'2" and Comic Book Wolverine stands 5'10". But the comic book Wolverine is jacked as all hell. Deadpool and Wolverine is a double Agencort salute! One day I'll...oh hell, when Henry the 5th went to war with the King of France he took Welsh archers with him. Welsh arrows are made of Yew wood. They held them between their middle and ring fingers while using their forefingers as their site. The French taunted them saying they were going to cut off their middle finger after THEY won the battle. However Henry 5 kicked their French hinnies and the Welsh stuck up their middle fingers and yelled "PLUCK YEW" at the defeated French. And now you know the origin of the Agencort Salute and everybody's favorite vulgar retort.

i like the charisma that Ryan has, and would LOVE to see him in a re-make of the Errol Flynn's Captain Blood. There was enough humor in that movie to allow Ryan to sparkle, but it is enough of a male-actioner that Ryan could be believable as the Captain. If Hugh is looking for work why not write him into the film as a rival pirate who wants the Olivia de Havilland character. I think pirate movies can be successful so long as they avoid the Johnny Depp style films. Make it a serious pirate film--show off Ryan's serious acting chops--and at the same time the banter between he and Jackman could push it over the line into smash hit.

@@chaburchak White it is true that Capt Blood was a real man Tom Blood, the truth is that there were American pirates, and since there is no copyrigh6t on a name the film could still feature Ryan who just happened to be named Blood as well. The best part was the not-so subtle metaphor of the junkyard-multiverse world full of twentith-century fox items...and all of the superheroes were unused (unwanted by Disney) versions before the MCU took over the supehero movie genre. And then giving the opportunity to Blade, Elektra...and the two other cameos to get a one act reprisal was fucking dope. I'd like to think Ryan Reynolds really wants to be that overt and point out the glaring issues at Marvel using the subtext of the movie. Maybe Marvel is starting to laugh at themselves? Who knows...I loved the movie, but I really saw the weight, even with the creative irony, that the multiverse really has over the plot development for every MCU movie nowadays.

I want so much for this movie to be the biggest earner for Marvel (Avengers besides) in a very very long time. Perhaps the Disney bean counters will tell Bob that "Look Bob, making movies that the public want makes money for the shareholders - who knew?" I am in agreement with you though, despite the $$$ signs, Disney will carry on with their DEI crap. At this point, I think that the BlackRock types have some very very dirty dirt on the Disney execs. That, or the WEF have initiated them all into some secret society that wants the world to burn.

This is only rumor, but I read Ryan and Hugh both had a lot of fights to keep Disneys BS out of the movie. Im glad they won those arguments, if so. Sometimes I worry Hugh Jackman's pull waned with Logan (he hasnt been in much on screen since Greatest Showman), but it would seem the audience still loves it when he plays Wolverine.

Deadpool and Wolfie are the modern day version of "The Odd Couple". I do wish Ryan would stretch his acting pedigree though. Every role he does is just himself, which isn't terrible, just that he never tries to be a totally different personality.

"I do wish Ryan would stretch his acting pedigree" Reynolds has basically made a career out of Van Wilder. Buried (2010) is probably his best dramatic work. The Voices (2016) is a bit weirder than his usual work, and I'd say it was underrated but overlooked might be a better description as it just seemed to pass by without most people noticing.

"...Every role he does is just himself...' Thing is, that's what people want to see. It's what they'll pay to see. John Wayne could actually act too, but that wasn't what audiences wanted. Roger Moore always just played himself and it worked. Some actors are so great at their craft that they disappear into the role (I've watched movies where I didn't know Gary Oldman was in them until reading the end credits), but that doesn't sell tickets - Charisma does....
