Lots of people don’t consider total long term cost of ownership! Yeah, you can afford the Patek with an alarm and 6 complications now but service time little Timmy isn’t getting a graduation car cause dad has to service his watch.😱😱😭😂 My local watch maker is a genius and a gem. He can service highly complex watches…/he saves me thousands.
@jeffv32968 ай бұрын
The kind of people that are buying grand complication Pateks are not the caliber of people that are looking to save money on servicing by going to an aftermarket service center. It's one thing to have a standard issue Patek, Rolex or any other upscale brand watch worked on by a nice watchmaker but a rare Patek complication needs to go back to Patek for servicing. Having Patek service a watch like that will cost a lot, but the watch will retain or gain a lot of value by having a Patek service history. If you try to sell a highly complicated Patek with no service record or a service record of it being worked on by an outside source, it will have an immediate negative impact on the value of the watch.
@ryanjofre8 ай бұрын
@@jeffv3296 I agree implicitly and a Patek Grand complication is an extreme example with respect. Even I would send a watch of that calibre to Patek. My point is geared toward a working class guy buying their first Patek like a nice Calatrava that he had to save for and intends to leave to his son and his being shocked when sends his nice but not so complicated watch in for basic service. I haven’t bought any high end pieces post 2019 and I save a fortune with my local guy on everything but especially on 1 of my Patek annual calendars(for example). I’m not even remotely concerned about diminished value as I bought my high end watches at the bottom of the market and saved a ton to begin with. I’ve only bought shitters since 2018 and even then I’m a tenacious bargain Hunter. Last time I got a quote from Patek for service I laughed so hard I almost feel out of my chair. Even Breitling who uses reworked ETA movements in some of their pieces charges a princely sum for service. Godspeed🙏
