It seems like I heard a couple of stories about Grant at Petersburg. I want to say I heard them on the History Channel back when it did history. That said, one was if you deserted to the federal lines and your home was in those lines, he would parole you to go home. The other was if you brought your rifle with you, he would give you $5 for it. Has anyone else heard this.
