There're a few things I like about this video: 1) The artist doesn't talk my ear off; 2) He uses real time speed; 3) The captions about what colors to use are very helpful; 4) The sketch leaves room for imaginning; 5) The techniques gives us ideas to develop our own style.

Line and wash is a great form. Lines establish edges and watercolor rapidly adds volume by adding value. It doesn't take long to create a finished work, so it is great for travel.

Great lessons learned from watching this silent video (which, incidentally, made viewing much more enjoyable and focused me). I learned the streets cobblestones could be inferred without drawing each individual stone, using unhesitating pen strokes make a difference, and that a 1/2 inch flat brush is not too big to fill tight spaces. Terrific video Peter, and just want to say it again, the silence and on-screen text were a plus and helped with your demonstration.

your KZbin videos have inspired me to try pen and wash. I'm trying real hard to transition from painting in acrylics, to watercolor, and the pen and wash is helping me to do that. I didn't know I could paint, or do anything at all artistic, till I was 49 years old. I have a huge learning curve, but people seem to like my work, so that's encouraging. I've sold a few things, and donated a few things to fundraisers, etc. I now do acrylics, watercolor and photography. Who knew! I'm not real good at any of that, but having a blast. Anyway, thanks for helping me out! lol = )

I really like your style and interpretation (other than the splatters, which is personal preference). In this video I benefitted from seeing how you created the sunlit areas by darkening the shadows rather than trying to paint in light. The limited palette and the use of cool phthalo blue to contrast with the warm ochre and burnt sienna were also good instruction. Thank you for posting, I shall watch some more of your videos. 👍

For people who, like me, are artistically challenged, but would want to give it a go. This is how I do it. Get a piece of tracing paper. tape it on your computer monitor then trace out the lines with one of Peter's favorite Uni-ball pen. When done, get a pencil ang shade in the lines on the reverse side of the paper. When done, trace out the lines again on a watercolor paper of your preference. After peter's sketch had been magically transferred, I trace out the pencil lines with a Uni-ball pen and there you have it-- a copy of Peter's sketch. I replay Peter's video and follow along. Thank you Peter...
