Marty would try and defend Rust no matter what, even 10 years later he not only defends Rust but walks on the interview once its clear there deadset on Rust being the killer. Marty knows for a fact why there are holes in the story and how that would appear to the detectives but they had him thinking it's very possible Rust has been up to no good since they last parted ways, I dont think Marty ever considered he was a serial killer but that he probably killed Tuttle or was some way involved, and Marty wasnt going to help them at the least. He hated Rust for the maggie situation but there would always be something there, Rust covered up a murder for Marty no questions asked and the cover story made Marty out the hero and had Rust hiding behind an old boat. Marty doesnt forget his debts.

I always feel like rust got suspended on purpose so he can focus on the "Yellow King and Tuttle cult" on his own peacefully cause those asshole bosses purposely wanted him focus in another work and throwing files on him. Rust pissed off Tuttle by going to his office despite knowing the consequences that Tuttles influences the STATE PD. The major leroy warned him before that he will suspend him if rust continues pulling old case files. He knew they are gonna suspend him if he managed to piss off Tuttle and which they did. Otherwise I don't see any reasonable explanation why RUST would went so bold pissing off big fish Tuttle on his own unless he has something on mind. You can see the conservations of rust and tuttle wasn't really meaningful either cause both were very clever man and didn't give away anything. Before Marty and Rust had fight he(rust) was coming to office to get some files. I am sure those files are clearly related to Yellow king and Tuttle cults. He wanted to work 1 month on his own and break it peacefully. Then the same night Maggie ruined everything and made rust resign from PD. Which made him took 10 years to break it cause he never had access to police files..
@muffinmuffinmuffin9714 жыл бұрын
It wouldn't be consistent with Rust's character to do something unstrategic like antagonize Tuttle without knowing the consequences. I agree with you there. A part of me thinks he wanted to confirm Tuttle's influence reached this deep into the PD as well as, like you said, take time off to work on the case privately. Solid theory!
@Vinicantstopcrying4 жыл бұрын
@@muffinmuffinmuffin971 Thanks. I always feels so bad that rust had to be scapegoat of Marty and Maggie private life. He was solid, devoted police officer who can break the case just making 5 min interrogation to the suspect. I felt extremely sad when he was resigned cause he lost his only pal that tolerates his weird outlook of life (Marty). Rust knew after losing Marty he has nothing to do with PD cause everyone hates him. Even a genius man like Rust needs friends. We all saw they broke the case in few weeks after the reunion back in 2012. Rust knew he needs Marty and Marty was nothing without Rust. If Maggie didn't used him to get divorced from Marty then the case would've solved back in 2002. Lots of lives would've been saved. Maggie took advantage of rust alcoholic state that night and made him fall for her which in normal state rust never would've done it. We all saw How cold Rust was refusing a prostitute during interrogation like he had no sexual desire. The only time Rust was sloppy when he is under influence of alcohol and Maggie was lucky that Rust had load on that night. But you can see what he was working on before Maggie intervene that night " The tuttle case". The devils net and antlers were all over his home. That convinced me even more that Rust wanted a break from PD and focus solely on Dora lange Case.
