About Equal Rights:
Equal Rights brought together Peter Tosh's dedications to the revolutionary movements growing in Africa, and the mysticism and wonders of his personal growth as a prophet, poet, preacher and world-class musical trailblazer. The album included a number of songs that became human rights anthems over the next two decades: Get Up, Stand Up, Downpressor Man, African, Apartheid, and the title tune.

Lyrics:
Downpressor man
Where you gonna run to
Downpressor man
Where you gonna run to
Downpressor man
Where you gonna run to
All along that day
You gonna run to the sea
But the sea will be boiling
When you run to the sea
The sea will be boiling
The sea will be boiling
All along that day
You gonna run to the rocks
The rocks will be melting

Greetings from Jamaica...Peter Tosh was a true revolutionary. He sang from the heart.. This album takes me places. I prefer absolute solitude when I listen to this album (just want to be alone and be one with the music).... Equal Rights, a great album Respect and blessings to all who are within earshot of this song..

70 next year, saw the Wailers in mid-70s at Santa Monica Civic Auditorium (youtube has vids). Picture this: when the concert began the lights went out, and electricity filled the air! After a minute or two, when we could barely see movement on stage in the dark, suddenly at the middle of the stage a bright ember burned, then it suddenly disappeared stage left (or right?). Then the lights went on, the audience erupted in cheers, and Bob Marley blew-out his exhale of smoke (couldn't have been ganja, that was highly illegal back then)......!

Peter Tosh was a ferocious beast musically! Everything he touched represents near perfection & has & continues to change this world for the better one mind at a time. There may have been equals but no one has ever been Better than PT, especially in this genre. To top it off he was also a spiritually beautiful human being. A beautiful beast! Marley & Tosh, their likes shall not be seen again. Thanks to The Most High that I was alive to see it all!

Today I'm 58 years old still feeling as if this album was released last year. May your soul rest in eternal peace Jah man, my prophet & long live here Ahoy Rastaman!

The "Stepping Razor" . During the dark days of apartheid in South Africa, these songs like "equal rights and justice" inspired, uplifted us, encouraged us, comforted. We took solace that other Blacks overseas knew and cared about our struggle against an oppressive regime. Other reggae songs too. But nowadays!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What is happening in my country !!!

One Friday afternoon after I and my colleagues closed shop at school, we sat beneath the veranda of the demoted principal's cottage and played this bro's music. People misconstrued our jubilation as celebrating the principal's misfortune. We danced and danced and danced at the same time downing some glasses of morula juice. This went on, it was in February of 1985, till the evening. Peter Tosh influenced me politically and inspired me to become an agent for change before the demise of apartheid. This Rasta brother plays timeless music, music that's everlasting. Pete is the best among the best. He is incomparable, Period.

@sweetpotato908; If I may add a few words to your great comment, I shall start by saying that you are an insightful person to describe Peter’s album as an eternal spiritual asset… The fact is, Peter will forever remain #TheHighPriestOfReggae or as we say in Afrika, the Chief Priest. In our culture, a King without a Chief Priest is a King without spiritual fortification. A lot of people do not recognize the Brotherly love he shared with Bob. Peter was the high Priest who anointed Bob by teaching him how to play the guitar, which stimulated and unleashed the gifts of melody within him. He became King because he had the perfect High Priest. Rest in Power; Great Sons of Afrika, born in Jamaica. ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾🇯🇲❤🇬🇭✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾

Is no coincidence that all Jamaican artist even the older ones like Peter Tosh Bob Marley they knew about their history and obviously we all know Jamaica they would like the rebellious slaves they stood up for themselves even though they still got defeated but that's where the music and the love of music the power in the Jamaicans come from and aggressiveness

@harrythebarry YAHSHUA* and bredren, there are and will be many in the Kingdom of heaven who knew/called Him as Jesus on Earth. Thanks be to God though that He revealed to us the true name! Shame is upon those who work to hide the Messiah's original name. Much love
