"I'll keep it until it dies" :) It won't die, fiats might let you down on a cut cable or some other minor glitch with electronics, but mechanics are bulletproof - the time anything breaks it's cheaper to fix than any other brand. People run millions of miles on old fiats here in Italy just keep your oil fresh and change those spark plugs every 25k!

I saved up money from being a lifeguard in high school and bought a 2014 fiat 500 sport in the metallic blue. I was terrified that it was gonna be dangerous to spend so much on a new car as a teenager but it seems like everyone who owns one LOVES them! Ive since driven it from chicago to baltimore and back 3 times and its approaching its fifth birthday. Its also helped me move house twice :0 Basically, i love it. Im glad other owners love theirs. And i hope some day small hatchbacks like these hit the mainstream again instead of nasty crossover SUVs Edit: my battery also died out of nowhere after 3 years! Ive also had to change out the headlights but theyre extremely easy to diy

Roberto Simeone hi I’m considering a fiat 500. It’s down to a fiat 500 or a Mazda 2 or 3. It would be my first car so I’ll have to go second hand. I would prefer 5 doors but the fiat seems really reliable, safe and cheap for the city/suburbs. Any thoughts? I haven’t heard about them breaking down, what are your thoughts?
@chriskonte19095 жыл бұрын
@@tmaxim2651 If you live in america the only option you have is to get the 1.4L gasoline engine right? If you can get a manual and learn how to shift with it. Their manuals are really soft so is the power steering. If you get a Mazda 2 or 3 you'll have a better handling the 500 is more relaxing. The glasroof is cool but if you have the option to open it clean the it every once in a while between seals and the metal otherwise it could drop in. A problem they had is bad door handles which could fall off one day so check both handles and if they're still solid hey I think you got one of the best city cars.

Did not have good faith in my. 500 L after I bought it and was going to trade it in, but then resale did not give me much, so I keep it and started watching your video. Now I have my fiat for four years now , run well but idiot lights comes on all the time , then like magic, after a while it goes off on its own. Very scary if you don’t know anything about cars. One thing I did read in the manual is this “ if check engine light comes on”. How serious? Keep on driving, only if it flashes while your driving means pull over, something seriously wrong. It said this in the manual. Have 55k on it now, license plate light needs replacing., had new tires and brakes at 45k, regular oil change. Nothing else, car runs fine. Very cheap to run

Great review Peter. I own a 2014 500 in the UK but my Mom liked the photos of mine so she wanted one too! She lives in Orlando, FL and we found a 2013 yellow 500 with eyelashes! She bought it in September with 53000 on it. I visited her and took it to get a 2nd key at the dealer($300 in total for key and reprogramming) but dealer said it has a leaky vacuum pump and repair is $780. I think I will ask another mechanic for a quote. Not sure how urgent it needs to have it as there’s no oil leak on the garage floor. The US version Fiat 500 twin air 1.4 automatic car has so much more features than my UK Fiat 500 like cruise control, she also has mechanical sunroof and auto lock doors as you drive off. But no volume control on the steering wheel which to me is helpful on wheel rather than having to push radio volume buttons.

The OE battery failure is fairly common with vehicles manufactured and assembled outside the US. The batteries don't stand up to upper Midwest winters. Many batteries don't actually. I'm from Minnesota and a former Chrysler brand franchise owner. Four generation dealership. Battery replace kept us busy every winter. I used to do battery replace pro rate calculations all day in winter. 😁 Also, take some cutting polish or rubbing compound to your finish after washing, or a clay bar. Then a finish polish. Shine like new with disappeared blemishes. Some wax after a subsequent wash. I spent years detailing too.

With 500's you are, according to the manual, change the spark plugs every 30K. I think its because the plugs sit so deep in the engine and the rust that develops on the plug, they want to make sure you can get them out. Also if your car is running rough or you are throwing misfire codes, just change the plugs, you don't need to change the coil packs, they don't go bad.

Having driven electric cars for the last 5 years I’ve just bought a new fiat 500 hybrid manual in bright orange and totally love it, no more worrying about range and flat batteries, big enough for me a passenger and economical. That average MPG is really terrible, somethings really wrong there, even given the circumstances you said toy should be getting 32-35mpg. The air filter will be affecting that (& should be changed every 10-15k, so yours must be horribly blocked & making it run rich) as will the plugs (which should be changed every 25-30k, to stop them seizing in the head as much as efficiency). Also, what pressure do you run your tires at? How often do you do oil changes, & have you changed the gearbox oil & brake fluid?

Philip Sta Maria I bought a used 500 pop with 92k miles on it. Just went through a very hot and humid desert summer. A/C has turned out to be one of the coolest I have had in any car. Almost instant cool.

Hi Peter! Congratz on the 7 years! I've had my Fiat 500 for a bit over 1/2 a year (it's a model 2014, bought in 2015, and I've had it since feb 9th 2018). You probably want to change the battery of your key fob, because mine can definitely do 30 feet plus! I've done at least 60 feet, and I've even used it from about 15 feet, but through 2 panes of glass (I was inside of my office). Also, I wanted to ask you about squeaks, does your car squeak/rattle a lot? particularily from the dash area. Mine has a couple of very annoying squeaks, one from the AC panel, which I plan on fixing when I change the burnt out light bulb this week. And the other seems to be coming from the little bit of colored plastic that has an air vent to the left of the steering wheel. Thanks!

A squirt of wax furniture polish can deal with panel squeaks..If you are lucky and if you hit the right spot.

you can get a space saver tyre from your Fiat dealer

Like your content.. Would love to see the underside. That's where the problems start here I mix Europe. They are very prone to dust from road salt You can look to replacing much of the underside from brakes, suspension and subframes after 6 years. Add to that timing belt and water pump... It's not a great car ...suffers from corrosion, and because of its compact size, requires more hours maintenance ( to strip ancillary areas to allow access to components for repair). Basically, it's a very easy engine to work on, however, it's a bigger to get to several components.... Leading to cost..

Fun fact i bet you dont know is that big exhaust is not real its an Exhaust tip screwed on lol but it does make a slight difference , I love driving the 500 they are fun and handle like a go-kart , Here in the UK its a perfect car for British roads as they are the right size , I would be scared driving one in the USA or Canada as the roads are so wide in the States. They are nippy enough as we say here 1.2 engine may only have 70bhp but ive had 110mph out of it lol

I own a fiat and I had my clutch and brake pedal recalled. I have had the clutch and brake pedal replaced 4 times in the first 100k miles. The repairs are no longer under warranty and I am very unhappy.

lol you need to circulate the air always when you use air condition lol. You are blow hot air inside the cabin no wonder it will not cool the air. At home you do not do the same right? Same with cars. And set it to 2 at max. Never blow harder with air condition on. Also a note what your doing wrong you start the car without waiting for the computer to do test mode. You miss allot of details how computers can warn you before there is a problem. Yes your fiat have this option. Just set the contact on. But not start it yet wait till all lights are out (beside your belt and door when its open) your computer gives a ok messenger or nothing depend on what version (firmware) you have. Also if there is a problem a small light (i) will show up but when you start its gone because its a small defect like a sensor thats not working correctly or something small. So next time before you start your engine (first contact it wait till all lights are off beside the battery and oil then just start it). I always wait till the pomp full pomp is done.

Peter, As you have complained for years about the side decals (aftermarket that you installed), why not just touch them up with a black sharpie, and be done with it. With all due respect, it's not really fair to complain about them as though they were OEM decals. In fact, they look pretty good, just need a bit of TLC, which you're easily capable of. Great Videos overall, best of luck with it. I have a 2012 500 which is all original (in bright blue). Mine has around 29k miles. I'd love to have a set of sport alloy wheels as you have added.

Do the long starts occur after not using the car for a few days? If so many cars will do this due to low fuel pressure. My caravan does ^^.

Nice review. I have a 7 year old Fiat 500twinair with 26,000 miles on the clock. Mine does 50mpg on a similar commute to yours so I am happy I decided on the Twinair now. Nice review and car though

@@markparr173 Mine is a 2011 Lounge Twinair. Love it, it's great (so far). I have heard about reliability issues with Fiats so keeping my fingers crossed they are not true.

Our 2011 lounge twin air 85 has about 35K on clock last time I looked (it's my wife's car). We has to change the coolant expansion bottle a few month ago but other than that just routine servicing. Some people have has door handles fall off but no problem on either of our cars. I've bought some covers for the front suspension tops as newer models came with them and were only £6 from Ebay. Water can collect there causing corrosion. If your on Facebook or Instagram take a look at Fiat 500 owners club uk. Lots of advice available and regional meets too.

I just financed a 2012 Fiat 500 convertible for about 7800 with 85k miles. I'm kinda wondering if these things have gone up in price because I haven't seen a Fiat for as low as under 2K like you talked about in this video
@Miller_Lite3 жыл бұрын
Prices are going up on this cars, one is the car shortages and 2 is fiat discontinuing all the 2 door models.
