Why don't you remove gradients or use background extraction first?

Thank you Peter for a clear concise tutorial series. I have followed you since your early Star Tracker videos and followed your advice on many of my DSO buying decisions. Your tutorials with PixInsight are a big help exploring the maze to achieve suitable images. I am not looking for an APOD, just images I can feel good about.

When I call up the “CreateHDRImage” tool, it brings up version 1.11, which looks different than version 1.8 that you demonstrate. I double and triple checked the resources folder and they all seem to match. Maybe I need to uninstall and reinstall them, but I am in the middle of working on my first set of stacked images and don’t want to loose them. 1.11 still has the Layers and Blend section, but it does not have the ‘protect colors’ check box, but has a whole bunch of other stuff. When I apply it, it just generates a black image. Can you help me understand what’s going on?

Excellent tutorial Peter! I followed this exactly (as best that I can tell) but had one issue. When I tried to do the BackgroundNeutralization and applied it my image went totally white. Here were my steps: - Under the “Workspace” menu item at the top, select the leftmost option “New Preview Mode” - Select an area of the starless image that is as black as possible - In “Reference Image”, select your preview. - Check “Region of Interest” - Click on “From Preview” and select my preview - Drag the triangle to execute My image went totally white at this point. What am I doing wrong?

You have to disable the preview mode als you will have it twice now (same issue as with the STM and Histogram)

H Peter, thanks for the great videos. One thing I am missing is the tool box drop down which contains Create HDR Image. I have looked back at the 1st video but cannot see where you instruct on how to install this. Your help would be much appreciated. Regard`s, Mark

Thanks for these great tutorials on Pixinsight. I've been using Astro Pixel Processor for years with generally good success but I knew that I needed to make the transition to PI but was intimidated by all the comments that PI was REALLY hard to use. I'm still in my 30 day trial but your tutorials have really simplified things for me. One question or concern is the file space being used. Following your tutorials I created an OSC image of the Needle Galaxy (70 frames) and I just noticed that the folder I set up is over 50GB in size. Perhaps you will get into this at some point in future tutorial sessions but do I really need to keep all of these files? If not, what are your thoughts on what to keep and what to jettison?

New astrophotographer getting started out here. I follow this workflow every time and it has been incredibly helpful to help demystify what all this stuff does in Pixinsight and what the proper order is generally.

Many thanks again mr.Zelinka! You really put in lot of effort. PI is made by brilliant "nerds" and the UI certainly shows it. Thanks to your very informative videos it might be worth using PI. It sure is a powerful "piece of sw".

Thank you for this series!! The last night out before our bright nights here in Sweden took over became one of the biggest disappointments when I tried to make something out of the data in photoshop. But following your guidance it became one of my best images ever. This summer Im gonna go back to older data and see what I can make of it with this new knowledge! Much appreciated ☺️

You do not use GHS?

GHS isn't needed. The same results can be obtained using HT properly or pixelmath stretch.

Interesting that most other workflows I've seen start with gradient removal. Is there a specific reason why you do not start with this?

After correcting everything (color, background etc) when I apply BXT correction only it leaves some weird black smudges around the target. They are not there. That’s why I can’t use BXT before the complete editing done. Mainly I‘ve faced this issue with “Messier 78”. Now I l’m not sure if it’s an issue with my data or the BXT. Have you ever come across the same issue?
@VisibledarkAstro
@VisibledarkAstro 6 ай бұрын
First should be crop, then gradient removal, then bxt correct only, then colour correct, then one more round of bxt for neb or galaxy detail, noise Xterminator then star Xterminator. At this point you stretch the starless and process further.

@@VisibledarkAstroApologies for the late reply! I didn’t get the notification. I tried doing as you said but still for the Messier 78 it’s leaving some weird smudges in the image. Sort of like Dark structure Enhance script. But it’s weirder than that. I did DBE and then used correction only and used GraXpert then correction but both times it left the same smudge. Only difference is, with the DBE one the smudges are less darker and with the GraXpert one it’s pretty prominent. Could it be my data then?

Wait, isn't the first step stacking all the photos? Then cropping? Then plate solving?

I’m supposed to buy the expensive 3rd party BlurExterminator to follow a basic workflow? And all the other $$ Exterminator plugins?
@VisibledarkAstro
@VisibledarkAstro 6 ай бұрын
Really not expensive if you consider how much money is spent on your gear. Also the time savings is well worth it using these tools. As well as the fantastic results that can be obtained. Good investment.
