These rounded, deciduous shrubs have been bred to make a big statement in the landscape. Along with being a great deer-resistant shrub, Weigela are also fantastic pollinator-attracting plants for sunny spots in the garden! Watch this video with Noelle, Horticulturist, and Education Director with Petitti Garden Centers, to learn more about the benefits of adding Weigela to your landscape. Newer varieties are compact growers covered in green, burgundy, copper, and variegated foliage producing white to pink, rose to red tubular flowers that are repeat blooming. Weigela are easy, perfect performers for sunny small spaces, in containers, and as low hedges. As with most planting projects, we recommend fertilizing with ‪@EspomaOrganic‬ Plant-tone® and Iron-tone® to provide nutrients needed to establish a healthy root system.

Another informative video - thanks Noelle :) Agree about Weigelas being versatile plants in terms of flower/leaf colour and also sun requirements as I have some in part shade and dappled shade and they bloom well! However, most of mine have been bitten down to the nubbin by pesky rabbits the last couple of years! So sadly, no blooms :(

Hi Noral. Thank you for this detailed info on caring for a weigela. I have two tuxedo Weigela that was planted 2 yrs ago. I was pruning late winter or early Spring. Maybe that’s why I wasn’t getting a full blooms. I will trim after they flower to see if that’s works out better. Appreciate the fertilizing tip. Very helpful.

My twopink and trilogies did not have 1 bloom this year AT ALL. Do they need a couple years before they bloom?

No, typically they will bloom heavily in late spring, but if they were damaged (by weather or animals) or pruned in fall, winter or spring, they may not be able to set additional buds/blooms. Next spring, feed them with Plant-tone and Iron-tone, only remove any dry tips or damaged stems, then after the Weigela bloom, prune as needed.

A few of mine have turned brown and slowly dying. Sprayed fungicide and insecticide still dying.

If the leaves are dry and brittle, it is likely that they are either too dry or too wet. With the high rainfall, if they are sitting in water or overly wet soil, the roots will rot, which mimics dry, browning, brittle conditions. If the browning is at the tips and it looks like the entire plant is dying back from the top down it may be twig blight. Continue to spray with a fungicide 1x every 7-10 days. Avoid spraying during the hottest part of the days to avoid burn or scorch. Remove damaged tips with sterile pruning tools. Remove any debris and mulch around the plant and replace with new mulch. Fertilize the plants after pruning if you haven't fed them this summer with Plant-tone & Iron-tone or Osmocote.

@@PetittiGardenCenters I love your prices, and I just looked on your site. What would the one in the video cost far as that size? Also do you have any with muilt trunks on them and are they price the same far as the ones I see online. Is there shipping or will I need to have them picked up myself? I'm Buffalo NY and I should call as well, I'm just not sure if I will be helped by you. Thanks

Unfortunately we don't have any available for sale that are the size of the tree in the video. At this time we do not offer any shipping services outside of local deliveries. Inventory varies by store, so I recommend contacting the location you'd like to visit and asking to speak to the Nursery manager to see what their in-store availability is as far as trunk size is concerned. You can find more information on our locations here: ttp://petittigardencenter.com/locations

This place is so expensive!!! Best nursery in the region is Kraynak’s in Hermitage, PA! Worth the trip to save money! Petitti’s = overpriced!
