In that case, maybe keep that assumption to yourself if you are unsure of it and know that it could hurt the person? We all know the feeling of breaking down over something small, not because we are weak, but because we have tons of other things bottled up. In the end, it just takes something small to break the camel's back. The last thing we would want to happen to us is for others to doubt our tears and show how little empathy they have towards our situation. It's not a matter of whether her tears are truly real or not, but the decency to at least consider the impact of your words instead of carelessly making a hurtful remark at no personal gain.
