I had an experience in May of 2024. I have always loved Petras music. But was never into the praise music. I was painting my sisters house. And was listening to Alexa playing Petra music. Alexa played Petras " let everything thas breath praise the lord" i felt God's overpowering presence on my sister's back porch. God's presence was so Powerful. That i was literally forced down on my knees. Praise be to God The Creator of all Things. I have always believed that God is real. But i after this experience, i know that God is real beyond any shadow of doubt.

A couple of years ago I was having some asthma attacks and really had a hard time breathing. I woke up one morning with "let everything that hath breath praise the lord" running in my head on a loop and the breathing problems were gone, they have not returned. It was something that will never leave me. This song came out over 40 years ago and is still impacting people!

First time I ever went into a Christian book and record store as a new Christian. I prayed and asked God to show me Christian music I will like . First cassette tape I laid my eyes on was petra more power to ya. I seriously wept every song upon my first hearing.. ps I was 23 years and hadn't cried since I was 16. This is one special spirit made record... ty Jesus

I actually got to goto one of their concerts when I was in High School. That's when I learned how powerful their music is and have loved them ever since then. I was 17 years old then and now at the age of 54 I still listen to them and love their music! ❤❤

I heard they could have been just as big as the other 80 metal bands but they were unwilling to compromise the message. Maybe you could tell me if that's true, I always believed it anyway, they were pioneers of their time

What I loved about Petra was that they would cite their Biblical sources for each song & they didn't care about whether they were politically correct or not as long as they true to the Scripture. I miss that about Christianity today. It just seems so watered-down and too touch-feeley. So luke warm!

Agree. At the time, we were emulating Journey and Kansas. But, the songs were generally well written and the recording well engineered. (JSlick, Keyboards and minister of weird musical affectation, 1979-1984).

Yes, the 80's sound had enough edge to it to give a sense of commitment and passion. The recent praise style is OK but the old albums which let loose rather than try to cautiously straddle the stylistic fence were the real classic Petra.

"Israel had a war to fight but the Lord showed them the secret He said the battle this day is mine But you must listen how to do it Put your singers first in front of the rest Let them praise and sing to me And you will see the salvation of your God And watch your enemies flee" Well actually, He didn't show them this secret. He didn't tell them to put the singers first, only to go out and face the enemies. Actually it was the King Jehoshaphat who, after consulting the people, appointed men to sing to the Lord and to praise him for the splendor of His holiness as they went out at the head of the army. So even before they decided this worship thing, the Lord had already made His decision to defeat the enemies amd informed the King thereof. This is a tricky one. Be careful not to believe in worshipping itself and start worshipping your own worshipping besides the Lord Himself.

@all66books yeah, i've been studying and meditating on this reality. what i've surmised is since satan (lucifer, the god of this world) was once the heavenly music director (he had drums and pipes, beautifully created by god, in his very being). there was power in that praise, but then he rebelled and was cast out. the power that is contained in praising the lord is no longer his possession...it belongs to god's children. we must use it against the enemy
