We, the German people, are closer to the russians than our gouvernement wants to imagine. This is what I have found in Musta Laatta's comment on an other reaction to this song "White winter, came without asking, Came fierce, covered with snow's silver . Turned my soul and my heart into ice, Covered the river with frozen tears. White winter brought wicked thoughts. The sun hid and there is a full moon in the sky. In twilight wandering, I hear death sneaking quietly. The snowstorm is still whistling and circles dashingly. Fierce winter settled coldness in a heart. Came cold, yet came without asking. Brought loneliness, took all my strength White winter. Snowy firs swaying in the wind, Yet fierce winter doesn't end in heart. Knocked on the window with a blizzard Fierce winter. Oh, I can't sleep, the blizzard filled my soul. The winter led a dear friend away. Winters wicked spells ruined a soul, Fierce winter took in Mara's embrace." Mara is the pagan goddess of Winter=Death. She misleads the man until he dies by the cold. Putting her hands on his face she takes his soul away, he disappears.

Mara is actually one of the names for ancient Slavic goddess Morana/Morena/Marzanna, winter goddess. In old Croatian folk songs you can still hear about her exploits in attempt to seduce Ivo (actually Yarilo/Jarilo, young god of vitality, spring). In Indo-European languages Mara, Mor, and variations on these are root words for "death", so it isn't surprising that she (Mara) assumed the role for both ruling death and winter.

Petra this may not be right but I have done a little research and believe Mara to be an ancient Goddess associated with winters death, birth and dreams. Death of Winter leads to rebirth of Spring. She may be shy but people may fear her.

Mara is ruthless ancient Slavic diety of Winter/Death/Fear [english word "nightmare" is actually connected to her name], known to mislead trevelers into lost with sudden weather changes, creepy or enticing sounds in the forests/fields. Here in Russia we still have a spring holyday when people make pancakes and roll flaming wooden-cart wheels down from the hill [both symbolize sun] and burn Mara's dummy/doll made from straw. These rituals were suposed to drive away winter and bring spring faster. Therefore, little story in their musical video follows folklore stories quite closely. Mara lured poor soldier away from the road to the frozen river and claimed his soul/life [when she touched his face].

Мара не настолько проработанный персонаж как германский или индийский, она просто доводит вас до смерти как выход из этого всёго, любя почти как мать.
@Gamulyator9 ай бұрын

Mara is the goddess of the Slavic pantheon who symbolizes death and winter cold. Morana's image is not identical. She stands on the guard of the worlds of Reveal and Haven, meets the souls of the dead. The Goddess Mara among the Slavs is strict and principled, she does not forgive change, who turns to her for help and does not hold his word will be punished by death.

Забавно смотреть на англосаксов, которые даже не понимают смысл этой песни)) Они просто кривляются под музыку, это еще раз подтверждает, что смысл им не важен, главное - звучит и ладно) но смысл тут довольно глубокий) - Googl tanslate - It's funny to look at the Anglo-Saxons who don't even understand the meaning of this song)) They just make faces to the music, this once again confirms that the meaning is not important to them, the main thing is that it sounds okay) but the meaning here is quite deep) Slavic goddess Mara - goddess of death and winter... Know, Anglo-Saxons, the Slavic soul cannot be defeated! She is immortal! no one can take her away except the goddess Mara!!!
