@@artheathen I'm not sure which one you got, so the answer is "it depends." I had a bunch of old stationery like the cards in my office (and some stickers and old bookmarks, etc) and thought I would add them to the bags rather than just throw them away next time I cleaned out my cabinets. Some of the card designs are discontinued.

Just finished reading this the other day and really loved it. His writing (especially considering how young he was at the time of writing it) is pretty incredible, and though the story feels very much like a prologue that throws a bunch of background info at you, I'm excited to see where it goes.

This is my favorite edition of all the books I own, and I have a lot of broken binding edition of books and brando sando leatherbounds. That cover art is amazing! It gives it a grainy dark fantasy vibe to it and it's honestly perfect for this series! I really wish we could get prints of the book cover, but alas I'm the only one who wanted it to frame up lol

It very good for the price point. Personally I slightly prefer the Sanderson leatherbounds because they have more colour artwork, but that is also increasing for future Diamond editions, so those will be on par

I received my Broken Binding Sun Eater books 1-3 a couple of weeks ago…Gorgeous!!! Love the art work! Love the paper and the font size! Perfect! Love the reverse side of the dust jacket! Which side out?! Great decision to have to make! This edition also looks great!

My copy arrived two weeks ago and I'm stunned. I was also a bit shocked about the small font but because I don't intend to read from it,didn't bothered me too much. Auch,you saw the cover for Howling Dark,I'm so jealous 😅.

just today I got my Broken Binding editions of the first three Sun Eater books and I have the exact thought about font size in those. I am not the youngest anymore and even with my reading glasses I wish the font would be a bit bigger 😅

I absolutely love my copy. Its funny I couldnt find a HC for so long and now I have two gorgeous editions. I'm not a big fan of owning many special editions for the same book/series but I'm on board for TBB editions and these Diamond editions.

In a great coincidence, I received the Diamond edition of Empire of Silence and the first three books of the TBB edition on the very same day, so that was an epic mail haul on that day. I too was disappointed in the text font but love everything else, and was particularly struck by the laser cut of the slip case and display it with the cover out on the book shelf to show this off. Thank you for stating your only constructive comment is the font size. That is also mine as I just can not read font that small without problems. I'm so glad to read here in your comment section that @SunEaterBooks will correct this in the future. I was concerned. I LOVE all the extras they put into this edition and for the price, it is fabulous. Mine came with little art cards that are stunning. I am going to used them to read my Broken Binding editions. I adore these art cards. Would love to know whether they will be included in the future. The slipcase is so well done. the DJ is inspiring and galactic. the boards are outstanding and that foil signature on the back board is stunning. thank you so very much for this video!!!

I don't think they could stretch quite that far in price without making the artwork full colour. With that it would be about on par with books around $200, beyond that price point at least I need more from the binding and printing than this has.

I received my copy of the Diamond Edition the same day I received The Broken Binding Suneater 1-3 set. It was a good day! In comparing the two books the Diamond edition is nicer in many ways; the book is "floppier" so it is easier to hold and read, and the margins are larger which I liked. The small font size was very apparent when compared to the Broken Binding edition. The page count on the Diamond edition is 512 pages, while the Broken binding edition is 578 pages. While I am able to read and enjoy the Diamond Edition's small font I would have welcomed a slight increase in font size. I wonder if Chris and Steve used the small font for Empire of Silence because they want all the Diamond Edition books to match perfectly and some of the later books like Demon in White are 20% longer which means that even with the small font Demon in White will be 100+ pages longer. This would only become more dramatic as the font size increases.

The Diamond Edition is better than The Broken Binding edition as it should be! The price tag is more expensive, too, after all. I think it was just an unfortunate event. Christopher has mentioned he will ensure the second book and beyond will have an updated font size! Other than that, this was truly a beautiful edition! :)

You know, I had the same pet peeve with slipcases being too tight, but apparently there is a reason. You want the slipcase to be almost airtight, as that actually protects the book from air reacting with anything inside it. Sure some books have acid free paper, but is EVERYTHING on the book acid free and immune to air and all the particles in carries including water / humidity? And most slipcased books are not necessarily on acid free paper. So they tend to be a bit tighter than you would think. And of course it does not take much for a book in a slipcase to be slightly too tight a fit.

Interesting. I probably will still prefer the slipcase not airtight, though. You're not really protecting your whole book if taking it out of your bookshelf damage your dustjacket. xD

You can't make it airtight and humidity will penetrate the material easily. Slipcases are relatively tight to ensure proper pressure on the boards preventing page sagging by having less force on the binding. Usually publishers design slipcases for books with dust jackets with enough clearance to add protectors to the dust jacket and still fit.

Hey Petrik, out of curiosity do you know what the difference was between the lettered edition and the standard edition? Like was it just that one was numbered and the other was lettered?

Not too many differences I think. The lettered doesn't have typography on the cover. It's lettered instead of numbered. And I believe there is one extra colored artwork inside the lettered edition. And it comes with a clamshell case instead of slipcase! :)

Petrik is right. They have a text-free jacket, an extra art piece, and the big clamshell box instead of the slipcase. They also have a bookmark ribbon and some different colored edges and foil. The clamshell and the extra art piece (which won't be shared, unless a letter-holder posts it online), are the big things.

Its a solid edition. My only real gripe is the paper quality, but I suppose for $100, I can let it slide. I do wish the slipcase was a bit tighter. I immediately put brodart on it to thicken it up haha

@@SunEaterBooks Comparing it with my Library it has small but noticeably less stiffness than comparable editions(Dragonsteel Leatherbounds and Grim Oak titles (which use #60 paper)). I guess that contributes to how nicely the pages lay flat when you open it. Opaqueness is decent and weight feels good as well.

Its great just got mine. Art is great, cover is cool. Feedback: 1) slipcase slightly too big, but is fine for me as i cover in brodart 2) font choice. It is too damn small. Would rather have thinner paper with larger font. Im a Kindle Bookerly size 3 font reader, so this size is hard to take in. 3) wish art was in color Price for price, not the same quality as a Brandon Sanderson leatherbound, which has nicer fake leather, font, and full color art print inserts. But smaller print run so I understand. About comparable to the Gunmetal Gods I have. Way better value than a Folio Society standard edition, which I have several and is probably slightly more expensive. An Easton Press is about the same price with better binding and paper, but no art. Will be getting any others if I can. Looks like I am Sanderson-ing this series…getting the special editions to sit next to my first editions.

These are solid feedbacks and assessment. I think it is about the same level as Gunmetal Gods but with better binding and paper quality. Gunmetal Gods on the other hand has more colored art. So yeah both are on a similar great level!

This book is boring, i listened to it on Audible after the constant plugging by youtubers. if i have to hear on more time "if only they new what i would become" etc i mean like every other page, way to go lifting you out of the story. Its sad that youtubers feel they need to find crap books and big them up to get views and get a one up on other youtubers.
