My first Gizz was a friend lending me the butterfly 3000 album. He said, "These guys are awesome. I heard their other stuff is heavier, so you might like that." Turned out the cd sleeve had a minions DVD in it instead, but I found them on Spotify. lol

To answer a question during Converge, Stu said Metal was the first genre of music he really got into when he was young. Joey is a huge known Tool fan and Cavs loves Motorhead. I’m sure there’s more influences than Metallica, Tool and Motörhead, but feel these are 3 of the biggest influences in this album

The first Gizz song I can remember hearing was 'The River' but I didn't know who they were or really like it/get it. Then I heard 'Work This Time' (obviously) when I first consciously pressed play on their Spotify and then a friend showed me 'Sense' and I much preferred their softer more psych chilled stuff which led me to listen to Paper Mache and that's when I got hooked! That was early 2018 and I've been obsessed ever since.

Elaborate? At a concert they covered Gizz in 2014? That's nuts.
@MurphDawg311 Жыл бұрын
@@AdamIrvine-p7u Sorry I worded that weird and should have elaborated. The Lips never covered Gizz, it was more of a community trickle effect. Artists and musicians involved with the Lips also started working with Gizz, I was heavily into the Lips at the time so it didn’t take long for the Gizzy name to enter my brain space

I found these guys through the omnium gatherum album because of evilest man and made the realization that a friend had introduced me to them with sense from pmdb. I loved omnium gatherum but didn't explore the breadth of their discography until I saw someone breaking down the order of least to best kglw albums. I just got sucked in and went down the rabbit hole. Was super lucky to get to see them this past summer--they are so fun live!

I think they blended a bunch of the sounds of the metal bands I grew up with who also made songs about apocalypse and destruction. Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Testament, and even some Tool elements. Yet made it their own and did it awesomely. I hadn’t listened to any of my childhood metal bands in years, so this album brought up a bit of nostalgia, but it also has some maturity that I can relate to now. I’ve listened to this album about a dozen times in the last couple weeks.

My first KGLW experience was the KEXP Polygondwanaland set. I was into Psychedelic Porn Crumpets at the time, which is a remarkably less exploratory band imo, and always viewed Gizz as too hard to understand (I took one look at the title of PetroDragonic Apocalypse and was like 'what the fuck'), so when I saw that video recommended to me, I saw Stu, thought 'he looks like a cool guy, maybe I'll give them another shot'. Oh how I wish I could go back and relive the moment I realised 'holy fuck what have I been missing out on'. And that was only 4 months ago lmao

I think the first King Gizz album I heard was Nonagon Infinity. I remember seeing the album artwork and it reminding me of a d20 from DnD which I was heavily into at the time and really enjoyed all the tracks from it, so I continued listening to more of their stuff. Actually just recently listened to all of "Eyes Like the Sky" and holy crap it was so rad, it's like an old western audio book album narrated by "I believe" the father of one of the band members.

My first Gizz experiences were both Murder of the Universe and Sketches of Brunswick East, around the same time, last November. Since then, I listened through the rest of their discography, they became my favourite band, and I got to experience the debut of PDA firsthand, even correctly predicting that an old demo, Uncolonise, would be on the upcoming "metal album" (aka PDA, with that song becoming Converge)

The thing about gizz is that they don't take themselves seriously, yet their metal is absolutely brutal. It's like what most metal bands try so hard to achieve, these guys just have fun while effortlessly achieving it. Look at Dragon's music video; it's fun and corny, a borderline parody, yet the lyrics & music are the most metal thing I've ever experienced.
