I think you should mention about rolling off throttle when change gear, I bet lots of new riders, especially people don’t know how to drive manual cars, will hold the throttle while changing gears.

I did my CBT a month ago and didn’t pass because the instructor wasn’t happy with my gear shifting/ clutch control. But honestly as an instructor I wasn’t happy with how little help and instruction he provided to me as a first time rider (who doesn’t drive a car either). I feel like this 15 min video was more helpful than the 4 hour course I spent that day 🙄😂🤙🏻
@darknimbus_
@darknimbus_ Жыл бұрын
I feel that! I went to my CBT a little over a month ago and pretty much as soon as i got the bike moving i dropped it on my foot! Was just starting to go round in circles to learn to control speed using the clutch, had too much speed and didn't turn enough to make the corner and was heading for the fence. So i braked without straightening the wheel. It wasn't the instructors fault, and i knew my mistake as soon as i did it. Gear shifting foot straight under the fuel tank. thankfully i had decent boots on, i didn't break any bones and the boot constrained it so it didn't swell (until i got home and took it off anyway). Didn't realize how badly i fucked my foot up so i continued on with CBT, but it definitely effected my learning a fuck ton. As i wasn't getting it, i was getting frustrated and tired which then made it worse. Im glad my instructor was super nice and offered to come in another day for me to give the last little bit of time i needed. Which was great because i couldn't walk properly for a good few days. Finally passed after that! ...then immediately went on holiday for 3 weeks so I'm watching this as a refresher before i get home to my bike

I completely understand, luckily my course was cancelled due to ice and rescheduled so I did get a chance to do the first day - sit on the bike, get it going, and kind of get a feel for the clutch and friction zone and neutral to 1st, thank you for pointing out what you do to make it stall and not just that it does lol - now I've got more time to watch videos like this. My instructor was very kind but extremely hands off and considering everybody else in the class has been riding dirty for years I had hoped he would have a little more attention to give. Lol it's okay though, I do wish I had access to a bike to practice beforehand. Decided not to buy one before I got a feel to see if I was comfortable (I also dropped the bike on myself oops! Oops I am a pretty small person but makes for some extra respect/caution for the processes)

I failed my CBT (UK) a week and a half ago due to the same reason, but I’m 32 with 13 years road experience. It was just the clutch control that was the issue, I felt the instructor was a bit harsh on me… but I have another one booked for this Saturday. Also I have a Yamaha MT125 pending collection from dealer, I want to be able to pass my CBT before so I can legally ride the bike home myself

I really appreciate you showing what the foot break and foot shifting looks like. No one in my family or friends ride motorcycles but I want to. A lot of the motorcycle language is completely foreign to me like clutch, throttle, torque etc are extremely unfamiliar words but this video and many others are so helpful I’m so thankful you help people like me that don’t have any mentors. I have a drivers license already but I feel more connected to motorcycles it’s also a great skill to have. Thank you very much for the videos.

Rear brake on my bike gets used first before, I ever use front brake. The only time I use front brake is to hold bike at a stop. My bike is always in gear always ready to roll at a stop never in neutral. I put both feet down at a stop never have 1 down. The clutch is amazing tool use it to pull power before stopping, apply rear brake you'll never risk a high side. Release cluth enough to get bike to friction zone use front brake to hold. Front brake at low speed is great way to dump your bike.

For someone who never used a clutch before, I think it's a good idea to crank up the idle enough to take off without stalling and even shift into second. That way they can get used to how the clutch works with a few practice runs before cracking the throttle on their new Hayabusa.

Thanks after 30 years got a bike again, just writing before re watching, In Canada as well are those courses offered glad I took one 30 years ago before I drove my first m-cycle, the sites you see on a bike are amazing, kinda sucks but to stay alive those sights can only receive a head turn glance as life is so important and getting where you want to go is about getting there not about not ever going anywhere again so you might see a beautiful sight a second longer than a passing glance... I HIGHLY recommend learning to drive a stick shift car before getting on a motorcycle. That cuts down on what you have to learn by half, and it is a lot easier stalling in a four wheeled car in an empty parking lot. It is a lot to take in on a motorcycle if you have to learn how to downshift to not stall, etc, etc. And taking a bike with gears up and down a hill and feeling how the gears work will prep you before the car. And second gear does not carry you to 70 mph on beginner bikes. More like 30. He was showing off.

I did my cbt, started on a motorbike and the rest of the people were so far ahead of me, and the instructor was being a bit too harsh, I was on the verge of tears because I was embarrassed and ashamed of myself, tbh I was getting it very slowly, but I felt it wasn’t explained enough to me, half way through, the guy said do an automatic scooter and you’ll pass. So I did my test on a scooter and passed, so I think it’s mainly the gears and stuff but yeah, going for some lessons this week with a different instructor at a new place that’s apparently really nice, and they’re only 1 hour lessons which I find good cause I can get overwhelmed 😊

Great video man. Got some sad news as my first bike, a Gixxer 150, was stolen yesterday in full daylight. I’m putting a video of it in my channel

In basic rider courses I was told not to have fingers on the front brake until ready to use and have the entire hand on the throttle.

basic rider courses assumes everyone has the same brain capacity. If you're able to maintain throttle with your right hand and keep two fingers covering the brakes, you will become a safer rider because you're always prepared to engage the brakes "just in case"
