Petrol Engine Working
In a spark ignition engine, the fuel is mixed with air and then inducted into the cylinder during the intake process. After the piston compresses the fuel-air mixture, the spark ignites it, causing combustion. The expansion of the combustion gases pushes the piston during the power stroke.
Diesel Engine Working
The diesel engine, named after Rudolf Diesel, is an internal combustion engine in which ignition of the fuel is caused by the elevated temperature of the air in the cylinder due to mechanical compression; thus, the diesel engine is a so-called compression-ignition engine.
First diesel engine
Successful early versions of the engine used low pressure fuel injection aided by a blast of compressed air to atomize the fuel. Since the air had to be pressured above the cylinder pressure at the time of injection, several stages of compression to reach pressures as high as 6900 kPa (1000 psi) were required.
Four Stroke Engine
A four-stroke engine is an internal combustion engine that utilises four distinct piston strokes (intake, compression, power, and exhaust) to complete one operating cycle.
