Hey kids: it is a car review, not a personal attire review. Leave the guy alone with his glasses. If I am not mistaken, they are prescription and need to be that big. If not, they at least kinda fit in with the 70s Italian look that works perfectly with a 70s Alfa. These guys are nice enough and brave enough to share their cars with the world and be on camera - have some respect. Keep the comments to the car.

I love the GTV and still on my wish list!! Back in 1974 a kid in the neighborhood received a red GTV 2000 for his 16th birthday and his older brother had a white spider!!... Just then the Alfa bug stung me as a 12 year old, but being born on the "wrong side of the tracks", four years later I bought my first car for only $50: A poor man's Alfa... A bright orange 1972 850 Fiat Spider! ...And still couldn't get laid...
@Krezo2007 жыл бұрын
Perry Castellano nice story perry, what are you driving right now mate?
@innervisionsOD17 жыл бұрын
Thank you cczz! I kind of went all out German going against my Italian heritage for now... 2009 Audi A3 hatchback tuned a bit that my girlfriend drives now as her daily, a 2009 Porsche Cayman S (6 speed manual) as my daily, and my cool iconic little hot rod, a modified 1976 BMW 2002, which I truly enjoy the most and drive it as much as I can!! The last "cool" car I had was a 1975 Triumph TR6 with a Ford 289 under the bonnet!! Even had a 1968 Camaro convertible with a 327 pulled from a '62 Vette that had at least 375 HP right after my little Fiat 850 Spider back in the 1970's and early '80's. So you see, I will forever love mechanical art and performance of all types from American muscle to European and even Japanese finesse!! The important thing is to enjoy and spread the love that our cars can bring to all!! Cheers back at ya!!

@ChaosphereIX7 жыл бұрын
@Tony that is your opinion. Totally entitled to it. Although I think few would agree with you that a Honda sounds better than an Alfa. I am praising it because I have driven a car with this engine, it is fantastic. I also own an Alfa, and know how their engines sound and feel. That is why I am praising it. It deserves it. I have also driven Hondas with modified B series engines. Did nothing for me. Personal preference is all.

In 1974 I was a 20 year old in love with sports cars. I had a close friend who's older brother owned a '71 GTV that he was looking to sell (I forget the price) so I went to the only Alfa dealer in northern NJ (where we were from) and checked into a new car, spider and GTV. The dealership was in Moderation as I recall. It was my 2ND car, first new one and it sold for approximately $ 7,500 dollars. Silver with tan interior, no air conditioning, sunroof or any other extras. Man oh man was that little sucker a blast to drive. Four cylinders, 100 or so horse power and the best description of how it drove was simple; it wasn't that it was overpowering, it just ran away from people. PERFECT BECAUSE THATS EXACTLY WHAT IT DID!!!

The spyder and the gtv shared the same motor architecture (dual OHC, alloy block and head, in production from 1954 to the mid 70's) and some suspension parts, steering, with related four door sedans that became famous as the choice of police departments, kind of like the CHIPs Mustangs were noted. Only lighter, and well sorted handling attributes common to the Alfas of that genre. Thanks so much for including them, and judging by the popularity of these Alfa video's, I think they deserve honorable mention within the European heritage that later was led by BMW with the 2002. Now we have a global nostalgia for lighter weight and less muscle or boosted compensations for weight. Mazda, VW, and others are agressively cutting weight, and the public has gotten sophisticated enough to really appreciate what you experienced with the Spyder and GTV.

I have no connection to or history with Alfa, but every time I see one of these, I am overcome with desire for one. Imagining it as a stripped, simple, street/track semi-outlaw type build...mmmm, beautiful and so much fun to drive. Need.

I daily drove a '72 Corvette for 8 or 10 years (and one that didn't exactly lead a charmed life prior to my ownership), and prior to that my father daily drove it for another 10-12 years. It didn't have "overboosted power steering" or "overboosted power brakes." In all those years I got stuck twice-once due to a dead fuel pump and once due to a broken trailing arm. And with that I moved the bolt to the hole in the top of the arm and drove the car home... I could probably count on breaking down twice in a week with any vintage Italian car. That Vette would blow the doors off this car is ANY performance metric, and I didn't "fear for my life" driving it. Still own it by the way. Anyway the Alfa still looks like an awesome car, and great review as always.

I want one of these so bad. It would look great in the garage next to my '74 Alfa Spider Veloce 2000 (same engine, same kind of music) but then I'd want a Guilia Super to round out the mix. But the two would require roughly $60k that I don't happen to have just sitting around right now. But I love the hell out of my Spider, and I will be driving it from Orange County to Monterey in August, which should be pretty epic!!
