Just last weekend I took my recently purchased Lancia Fulvia for a drive in the countryside during a break in the weather. I pulled into a pub car park because I wanted to turn around and re try the amazing road I'd just come down and right there was a dark blue Giulia Spider just like this one. I had to stop of course and meet the owner, also because the duo of cars looked incredible together. An unlikely sighting during the English winter.

James Carter, I have had my '66 for 8 years and my experience is the exact opposite. It was my daily driver for 3 of those years and only left me stranded once. When sorted, they are simple, reliable cars that are a blast to drive.

just bought a 1969 boat-tail for $1.00 CAD. It's in my driveway right now. Sat in garage for, I'm not sure how many years, then a farmers field and then my driveway. Minor damage right front. Roof needs replacing. I've also a 1969 Super Giulia. I bought this car for $400CAD in 1988. Put $4500 into body and seats. Been in my garage since 1992. It's red! I love Alfa's. So much history. I'll get the boat-tail completely restored next year. Vai Italia!

Why did all brands lose the capabillity of producing such beautifull detailed cars, all modern cars have nothing of flair, even the door handles, the rear view mirror, the gauges, every piece of the car is designed with the purpose of intriging people to look at it.. Todays cars are so boring..

Because of the silly American safety regulations. They ruined car design forever in the 70s and today they're ruining engine design possibly too, forever.

Gerardo is correct, safety and emission regulations, mainly in the USA, but in other places as well, changed everything starting in the late 60's. Per what was also mentioned about Trump, I seriously doubt his being in office would have any affect on all of this as mass market auto design is now globally oriented (cars are designed either FOR sale in the USA or not) + DJT's main area of focus has always been real estate and I don't think he has much of any interest in cars other than on a basic level.

i remember that double tap on the gas ... had a 1963 veloce ... god was i in love. i also remember 13hrs to change the head gasket the first time and 50mins that last time ... i did a few. raced SCCA 'f' production ... then there was that one exhaust nut ... crows foot, 3in extension and u-joint ... what? 1/8th turn at a time. it was painted appliance(bright) white ... 60 series tires and slammed to the ground ... previously a flat track racer in florida. in the santa cruz mts(norcal) nothing could keep up with me on hwy 9 ... that sucker was 'on rails'. had a roll bar built into the body behind the seats at an angle over 'em, with a 'heartbreaker' support running from the center to the floor of the passenger side. loops seat removed to make it work and that meant no chix! lol! every other friday at noon id leave work in palo alto and drive to pismo beach for clam chowder at pleases tavern ... then drive home ... 400miles r/t.

I once owned a '59 Alfa Romeo Guiletta Spyder for about a year. It was in rough shape but driveable and I wanted to fix it, but in those days when I had the money, I didn't have the time and visa versa. I had bought it for $400, loved it for a year and then sold it to a friends brother for $400. But at least I had it for awhile!

Apart from the air intake on the bonnet and 1600 cc, instead of 1300CC and a 5th gear - it was identical to the Giulietta, only sexier. It was a pleasure to drive it until, read below. Ciao.

I believe I just saw a very similar '61 car sell on Mecum auctions for $140,000. But I wouldn't sell it for any price. A Ferrari 275 roadster from the same Argentinian owner sold for over two million. The Ferrari is nice. But I think your Alfa has more class: The handmade detail, the design of the instruments. I drive a 1988 Alfa Romeo Spider Quadrifoglio. I'm not selling it. Ever. Still I like your car more than mine. My car may be awesome from outside, but the dash has way too much plastic, and the electronic instruments offer hardly any advantage. The Variable Valve Timing VVT does give it some more pep from the same motor. Happy Trails!

I've had both his car and yours (currently). As a non-fanatic, non-obsessed sort of owner, I get a lot more use and enjoyment out of the newer car, although the Giulia is gorgeous. For one thing, I don't have to worry about the '88 rusting into oblivion here in the Northeast.

Alec D. it was a convertible and it looks like all of these you mentioned are hard tops. I passed it the other way between a median about 15 minutes later and it had the upside down triangle shape found on most Alfa Romeos so I think I at least have the make correct. Im going to keep searching till I find out what it was. If I ever see the guy on the road again Im going to chase him down. He had his wife in the car and I didnt want to bother them wherever they were headed that night.

The spider veloce was the last of the Guilia (1600) spiders. I understand that it was only made for two years - 1965 and 1966. There were 1,091 of these cars made. I disagree with many things he says here. The veloce had disk brakes on the back. It also had different air intake than the normale cars. There was not a lot of information on these. Most dealers told me that mine did not exist. I was the second owner of my little car. The engine had been put into a race car so it had an engine out of a Sprint Speciale. Mostly the same, but different valve clearances.

Debbi Thomas Last of the 101 series cars with a 1600. 105 series Giulia still had them (Giulia Super, Spider, GT, TZ) If you find a 105 series engine in a 101 with Webers it is probably from a Giulia Super. Italian cars from the 1960's do not have model years. They were made when they made them. Not like the U.S. where they have to change things every year to sell cars. Giulia Spider Veloce made 1964-65. Sold sometimes in the U.S. as a 1966 which caused problems with emissions later with no PCV valve, or tap on ported vacuum to operate one. Tipo 10118 used the engine from the Sprint Speciale with part number prefix 10121. 10118 GSV has rear brakes using the 3-shoe Alfin drums from the Giulietta Veloce front brakes, and front disc brakes. My Veloce is the 36Xrd made. The only date I could find is 1964 on the tag on the steering box. It was purchased new in CA by my Uncle in 1966 so it hasn't been "out of hand" so to speak. Veloce's have a ram-air intake on the driver's side that is directed into the air cleaner. Other differences from Normal spider is the oil pan, rear axle ratio, cams, connecting rods, pistons, and factory tube header. A real Veloce motor is very different than the normal 1600. No power below 3000 revs. Goes like stink from 5500-7000+ RPM. Stops on a dime and handles like a skateboard...
