Looking objectively, you can see why the Korean car manufacturers are doing well. Relatively their cars for each segment offer good value for money, warranty and look modern. Compare this to a JLR / German 7 seater it’s a bargain (and probably won’t break). Good review Ped, keep up the good work.

I bought a 2010 Santa Fe 2.2 just for towing, I didn't go looking for one, it was just there. It looks OK from some angles but it will never win a beauty contest. That aside, it drives so much better than I ever expected and I find myself using it out of preference. At 146k miles it's still quiet, frugal, dependable and comfortable. This has made me and my wife think more about buying a more modern version. They feel well screwed together and the fit n finish excellent. We are averaging 37mpg which is not bad for a large 4x4 truck.

Looked at one of these a week ago at a dealer whilst having our Kona serviced and was very impressed. We have had a 2007 Tucson and 2011 & 2017 Santa Fe's - all of which were used as tow cars for caravans which probably what most were purchased for using the great 2.2 diesel R engine and this is the trick they have missed with this new one by only using a 1.6 petrol as the base unit and woefully low towing capacity. The out going Santa Fe with its 1.6 petrol and dct gearbox are not big sellers, you could get a 2.2 diesel but only in the lowest trim spec (still great spec compared to other OEMs) but coupled to the DCT. Our Kona is the GT AWD with DCT and there is a page in the handbook on how to drive DCT without it going into safety mode! Now towing with a 2021 XC90 Diesel MH. Probably our first and last XC90 as they have dropped the diesel option.

I watched your video and liked the camping scenario. I have very recently bought a 2024 Santa Fe here in Australia and I absolute love driving this vehicle. I was surprised to see the UK having a plug in model. In Australia our only option is the hybrid ( no plug in) and later this year I believe we will have the gasoline only variant as well. One feature (2actually) the Australian Calligraphy model has is 2 sunroofs the front one is fully electric with fully retractable glass, with the rear sunroof being a fixed closed glass with electric retractable inner panel. The only way to really understand how brilliant these cars (SUVs) are is to physically get in and drive it. Ita also a little known fact the the windscreen and both passenger and drivers windows are a special acoustic glass. The quietness of interiors is amazing for a vehicle with a petrol engine. I can’t tell when the engine is on apart from the dashboard display showing what power train is being used. Even with petrol and EV powering the vehicle it’s amazing. It lets the 12 speaker Bose sound system really perform. One last little bit of info. I don’t know if the Uk variant has this, but the Australian vehicle has a form of black box recorder installed. In the event of a major crash the police can retrieve a lot of info. So if you are the responsible driver in an accident this feature might just be your best friend with police and probably the insurance company. If you are the bad driver in a crash I’d be hoping the cops don’t find out about the cars black box. Seriously, as you know because you drove the Santa Fe Caligraphy, it’s a fabulous vehicle with absolutely every bell and whistle currently possible.

It could be although it is a little too big, we don’t need the extra row of seats (that went out years ago with our old Voyager) but it is a stunning vehicle. The 4x4 option is a real plus. I’m wondering if they’ll do a LR Defender and produce a short wheel base version….😁

I test drove a 2024 calligraphy the other day and was intrigued by the idea of this mirror. Personally I found the image to be a bit out of focus. Maybe, as you suggested, it was my eyes trying to focus as they would normally but couldn’t. I’ll be taking delivery of one next week and I’ll see if I will adjust to it over time.

You probably need reading glasses to use it in focus, which I don’t really understand. Otherwise it should be fitted with an adjustment to focus similar to nearly all camera viewfinders which have ‘diopter’ adjusters.

Another great informative video. I like the looks, I think it is a very clever design that will impress all the yummy mummies who hanker after a LR Defender. TBH it probably meets 90% of what most families would need for a Defender at almost half the cost. Ok it is not super fast nor will it have the off road capability of the Land Rover but if anything it is more practical. I don’t find the rear end offensive as I dislike the rear mounted spare wheel on the Defender. A traditional tailgate makes for easier loading in most situations. I have never driven a car with a rear view mirror camera but I know that Peter’s criticism is shared by many. What I cannot understand is why Hyundai did not install a mirror like on the Renault Megane E-Tech which the driver can switch between a traditional rear view mirror and a camera (to give a wider vision). I suspect the entry level trim and engine variant will be the best buy because at less than £47k it looks to be an awful lot of car for the money.

Llyn Breeanneh. Not sure how to show the pronunciation of double-L but it’s closely related to ‘th’ as in ‘thought’ and like in ‘Lynne’ but with the Welsh Ll [which is one alphabet character]. Dyfi is pronounced as Dovey. It’s a great pity that they don’t offer the 2.2 diesel hybrid as offered on the Sorento, on this model. With the eight speed DCT it would be a winner for me as a former Sorento owner. I prefer the diesel for its torque, better fuel economy with greater range on a tankful of fuel and because I have a home 2500 litre fuel station for convenience. I would buy one tomorrow with that spec rather than the still great Sorento.

It looks a little like a squatter version of Defender 110 on the side profile and similar to the early pictures of the Discovery 6. With regards the matte paint, my eMTB has matte paint and one of the local to me Detailing suppliers (Angelwax) near Glasgow Airport has a shampoo, Quick Detailer & a wax for matte paint which I use on my bike giving excellent results. With regards pricing I think it is on the mark especially if the new Discovery 6 is to be £85k then this being £30k cheaper it is a bit of a bargain. All in all I am very impressed.

Have to question a 1.6 GDI engine in a car of that size, electrified or not. Given Hyundai issues with GDI. I get they need to make every car fuel efficient from day 1, thank you EU but where will this £50k car be in 10 years time, with 100k miles on it. Is that planet efficient 🤔
@nickfry77052 ай бұрын
Picking up on your comments re the digital mirror. I suspect things would be even worse if you had your varifocals as in order to focus on the mirror you would be tilting your head up towards the roof in order to look through the lower (near focus) part of the lenses. As so often, just because technology means they can do something. It doesn't mean they should. Also a mirror can't really go wrong.

I have a relatively short commute, 10 miles on Motorway... some Hybrids automatically go to petrol above say 50mph which would not suit me.
