Just as an update for anyone thinking of buying one, I have now had mine for nearly three years (exactly same model / engine etc.). It is without a doubt the best car I have ever owned and it still delivers the same enjoyment that it did when I first got it. From a reliability point of view, the only problem I have had was a failed drivers door lock. The performance of the 3.0 is fantastic. Overall it was a great choice and I don't regret it for a second.

Me too. Had an R-Sport black edition but a saloon. Loved it. Best all round car I ever owned. And like you, the only thing that ever went wrong was the door locking mechanism.
@elementkid8810 ай бұрын
Thanks for your positive review Richard. Just bought one from a private seller with the drivers door failing to open failing to open on the key press, but will open manually if you wind the window down. Is that what you had? Was it an expensive fix?
@richardfreeman702710 ай бұрын
Hi, It was a very similar problem and my garage had to fit a new lock. Fortunately I did not have to pay as I had a warranty on the car from the selling (BMW) Dealer but I think it was around £170 including labour. Incidentally, I still have the car and I continue to think it's the best car I have ever owned. I just love it. If and when I replace it I would seriously consider getting another one but as I only do around 8,000 miles a year and the car has only done around 40,000 miles there is no great urgency to replace it. I have had no further issues with it, only the door lock.

Thanks for the speedy response Richard, much appreciated. I will be pleased if I get mine fixed for that price. I take it your garage was an independent garage rather than a Jaguar garage? I've just asked my nearest Jaguar garage how much it would cost to have the (10 year old) satnav brought up to date. "oh, that's just a usb download" said the lady at Service Reception with a smile. "£199!" @@richardfreeman7027

Have a 3.0d XFS saloon ... and it's just stunningly good. That engine, especially in 'S' form is a gem of a unit. The car has so much pace, handling and comfort and while it's an intangible element, it has so much more soul and personality than the 3 German equivalents (all of which are admirably capable and efficient, but capable and efficient doesn't win your heart, nobody says "have you met my wife, she's very capable and efficient") ... I've come to Jag from a fast Audi and I'm definitely not going back.

I am a big Jaguar fan myself. Enjoying a 66 reg XF S Supercharged at the moment. It's lovely seeing the dawning realisation on your face of what an excellent car the Jaguar XF is! Great idea about the "waft" test, they are so relaxing to drive at *ahem* motorway speed. 😀

I have the MY11 XF 3.0D S saloon and it has a gorgeous rear end. Masterful design by Ian Callum and his team. Also luv the interior "party trick" when it comes alive, the leather everything and the premium surround sound, DAB radio, etc. Just a great cruiser and daily driver. With a little chip integrated with the fuel rail, I have a bit of extra omph which is quite surprising to many vehicles as it pulls away from lights. I do more regular servicing than Jag requires, at 10,000 kms intervals, and use quality lubricants with the genuine parts from vendors in the UK (much cheaper than here is Australia). A great example of good old British design and engineering.

The dial gear selector is perfect with this interior, as it's a real space saver. When they went to a more traditional layout in 2016 and the dial dominated the center console area, it was horrid looking. Jaguar was well aware they made a mistake. By 2020 it was fixed. The standard parts bin ZF shifter would of corrected their err and saved thousands on warranty claims. Ian Callum even said so. Of course after he left Jaguar, it became standard across the JLR line up.

A friend of mine has the same car, same spec as that one except it has a nice cream leather interior and nice silver alloy wheels rather than those horrible black ones, and silver grille. (I've never figured out how anyone could actually like black wheels but that's obviously a matter of taste). I've driven it and have to agree that it's a lovely car except for the elephants in the room - reliability and build quality. He's not yet clocked up 60,000 miles and it's had numerous and expensive problems (e.g. wheel bearings, headlamp washers, high level brake light and handbrake motor to name but a few). The latest was a message on the display saying the alternator wasn't charging, which only a Jag main dealer can sort as it has electronics inside which have to be programmed with their software, which they won't let anyone else have. Alternator and service £1,300. I used to run Jags but having owned my Audi A6 for 12 years and 312,000 miles the difference in reliability and build quality is astronomical. Admittedly my alternator stopped charging as well, but I replaced the brushes myself at a cost of £2.49. It had only done 295,000 miles on the original alternator brushes!

Why do people (especially second hand car dealers) use such an idiotic superlative as stunning? A car is only stunning if it hits you at more than 15 MPH! If you can't express yourself any better, try saying it's a nice design. And how does he test the hi-fi? He plays some awful jungle rubbish. Anyone with an iota of common sense knows that to test the hi-fi, you need solo piano music.
