My dad got a 2012 XF-S saloon (all black and nice cream leather) and he is very happy with it. The car has run over 223000 km (over 138000 miles) and still going strong - no reliability issues yet. Great review! As a past owner of the 3.0D saloon, I can agree the costs to maintain are not any higher than anything comparable and they are very reliable and a great drive. Only additional expense you didn't mention that potential purchasers should be aware of is the tendency for the rear discs and pads to need changing around every 25k miles, or sooner if you live in Milton Keynes with all the roundabouts! Go to a specialist rather than a main dealer and save a bundle, still using good quality manufacturer equivalent parts.

Re: lack of seat travel. When it reaches it's forward limit, try holding the adjuster knob forward for more than 2 seconds. If it continues it's travel there may be a sensor fault. If it moves for half a second, it's in it's inch-by-inch mode. It's a function to prevent the driver being crushed against the steering wheel. Maybe it's a response to the demo graph of the typical Jag owner? (60+ and portly)

Owned the same model shown now for a few years and have loved it. No major issues, great form long and short trips etc. Did change the wheels down to the 19" ones to smooth out the ride as the 20" wheels are just too thin and easy to damage. Found all the old wheels were already slightly buckled due to potholes. One massive thing I was surprised you missed was the rear self levelling air suspension. This why it took so long to come out after the saloon as it was redesigned to be a dedicated estate rather than a saloon with a big bum. Did bring me some joy when speaking to guy who just brought a brand new £80k+ BMW 7 series, who was bragging about how it was one of the only cars with air suspension and how he would never go back now. So just lifted the boot cover and told him "yeah its nice, only paid 20k for mine though" ha ha.

I own a Saab 9-3 2.2 TiD which I bought from new in 2002. I adore it, literally everything about it. I tried to replace it a bunch of times over the years, even buying other cars, but I never let it go and always ended up missing it and going back to driving it, selling off the newer car. I had basically given up on being able to replace it with anything that I could actually afford, but watching your "Should you buy a Jaguar XF" video made me stop and think about it. I went and saw a few, test drove a couple and fell absolutely in love with a 5.0 normally aspirated Premium Luxury from 2011. It has really low mileage, is as clean as a whistle and comes with most of the upgrades (except USB, which was weird!). Luckily, my wife fell in love with it, too and we have been enjoying owning it for the past three months now! I still have the Saab, in fact I sent it to my mechanic for a month's holiday to get it back to "as new" condition and while I still genuinely adore it, I am not driving it often at all. Getting to the point, thank you for your videos and the advice that you give. I am not in the market for a car now, at least not for a while, but I continue to watch them to support the channel as I really appreciate the help that you gave me in uncovering this absolute gem of a car, a car that I would never have even thought of had you not made that video. To anybody else considering an XF, go and get one. If you can find a reasonably low mileage, good history, clean, high spec one with, if possible, the 5.0 under the bonnet. A simply stunning engine and not quite as expensive to run as you might think, as long as you drive it with a little love and respect (most of the time!)

Very common issue other than failing door locks (two of which were repaired on mine) is a leaking windscreen washer pump which causes major electrical issues by allowing washer fluid to travel by capillary action into the body control module located in the driver's footwell. Always check the multi-plug connectors that plug into this module for signs of corrosion if you're buying a facelifted Mark I XF (late 2011-2015) as it is a common fault and Jaguar has issued a tech bulletin on same. If caught in time, a new washer pump should sort it. Otherwise, it's a replacement module + wiring + re-progamming costs. Jonathan

I have had AMGs, M5s, a Nissan, GTR, new civic type R, Porsche Panamera and an audi RS6 and they don't come close to the Jag in terms of being the perfect all rounder. Loads of performance, hugely practical, costs hardly anything to buy and run and looks great. It has way more power than you would ever need on the road, I dont have to worry about where I park it and most importantly because it is so cheap I don't look at it with resentment (like I did a lot of my old cars) due to how much it is costing me every month.

Think I saw this car for sale towards back end of last year and fell in love it is a beautiful car and at the mo saving to upgrade my insignia for one of these in this spec. Love it. Great video.

I originally bought a new XF Saloon in 2013 and two years later bought a 2014 Sportbrake. It's a fabulous car and completely reliable. Mine has full service history and is phenomenal. I have just ordered a new one and whomever buys my existing car will not be disappointed. The only issue I have, is that I have no idea when my new car will arrive. Great review of a great car.

I've got an XFS sportbrake. Same colour as the one in the review. I love it. It's fabulous to drive and pretty economical. Fast enough and is really dynamic to drive.

Just bought a 2015 XFS in Black with the Black pack on it. Can’t freaking wait to have it delivered. Your reviews have been so helpful. Ive always loved the looks but your reassurances about the reliability and it’s ‘special’ factor have reiterated that this is the perfect car for me. Can’t wait to get behind the wheel!

Nice to see one of these "executive" car in a colour other than Black/Grey etc like the rest of the German line up - and the Gentleman's club seats really lift the interior from old man to young man's car. (ok Daddy Wagon)

XF-S in the right spec is better than the 5 series. My one had every option. Heated steering wheel, heated & vented seats along with electric door opening controls in the rear view mirror for garage or gates. Remapped to 325bph...amazing.

If I had the money, I’d have one of these. As you said, the best looking estate car on the market........ 😃👍🏻

Beautiful. One thing.....I opted for the 2.2....for simplicity and reliability, they are in the big Mondeo's etc. Mines a Sport LE, only made for 12 months before the introduction of the R Sport variant. Just shy of 200bhp....it's been faultless for the past 3 years. People who slag em are normally driving boring common so called premium German cars...which in reality, are no more reliable than anything on the road...but a damn sight more expensive when they do go wrong. Great review.

You're absolutely right...Jaguar lost the magic entirely with the subsequent XF and XE; not sure what they were trying to do or if the accountants took control of things.

The interiors on the original XFs are better than the replacements. I like these sportbrakes, always wanted one, and have never been brave enough to actually consider buying one.

Beautiful car, gorgeous interior. Has to be one off the best looking estate cars around. Sadly if the seat doesn't go right forward it wouldn't suit me at 5'6". Thanks for another great review, all the best from Scotland.

My Wife is 5'5" and drives mine no problem. If it was I'd definitely have heard about it from her. Her major complaint is that "The brakes work too well, they are dangerous" Hahahaha!
