I owned two XF's the old 3.0V6 and the 2018 2.0 - I loved the 3.0 and sold the 2.0 within 6 months. I loved the mid range overtaking power of the V6 it was effortless and pulled like a train. Tech was the only thing that let it down as a bit dated.

I reckon this is the best looking car in its class. My neighbour has one and I hope to buy it from him. I love the soft and supple leather seats and dashboard. The performance on tap is ample. It feels special inside which can't be said with the German rivals in its class.

You are correct about the newer model interiors. I've had a 2010 and 2014 XF-S and both were streets ahead of the equivalent newer versions inside. The new design is also less attractive. Seems to me that Jag went mass market with it to attract 5 series owners and it therefore suffered.

I bought the XE R sport 180 as my first ever proper go at a Jag and i know loads slag theas off but i have to say i will be going back for seconds when this one has run its course with me. Prob an XF though Now i have had a little jiggery pockery done to it and an engine and box re-map along with a service is an amazing thing to have done as long as its done by a jag specialist only up to 225 BHP but its that 519 Nm of torque.(out of a 2.0D 4 potter now that is just mental). Economy is a bit better surprising but true unless you lift up its kilt and insert a size 9 Doc martin up its arse then its low 20s. But its a hoot to drive and looks the dogs Dangles' O and the app is the icing on the cake while the other lads at work are scraping the snow and ice off their cars mine has defrosted and is toastie warm MINT.. Cheers Dynamite Dave...

My dad got a 2012 XF-S saloon (all black and nice cream leather) and he is very happy with it. The car has run over 223000 km (over 138000 miles) and still going strong - no reliability issues yet. He previously had many BMW 3 and 5 series, but now he preferes the Jaag! I'm always pretty excited when I'm allowed to drive it. It is a really special car.

Great review! As a past owner of the 3.0D saloon, I can agree the costs to maintain are not any higher than anything comparable and they are very reliable and a great drive. Only additional expense you didn't mention that potential purchasers should be aware of is the tendency for the rear discs and pads to need changing around every 25k miles, or sooner if you live in Milton Keynes with all the roundabouts! Go to a specialist rather than a main dealer and save a bundle, still using good quality manufacturer equivalent parts.

Re: lack of seat travel. When it reaches it's forward limit, try holding the adjuster knob forward for more than 2 seconds. If it continues it's travel there may be a sensor fault. If it moves for half a second, it's in it's inch-by-inch mode. It's a function to prevent the driver being crushed against the steering wheel. Maybe it's a response to the demo graph of the typical Jag owner? (60+ and portly)

Beautiful looking car and on my list. I’m hanging on for twelve months and hopefully pick up one of the new 2021 sport brakes used with the tech upgrade...even more beautiful, especially in grey or electric blue with the black pack and panoramic roof. I also like the fact that although it’s not rare, the Jag just stands out as being a little more exclusive than your Audis and BMWs which are seemingly everywhere.

Owned the same model shown now for a few years and have loved it. No major issues, great form long and short trips etc. Did change the wheels down to the 19" ones to smooth out the ride as the 20" wheels are just too thin and easy to damage. Found all the old wheels were already slightly buckled due to potholes. One massive thing I was surprised you missed was the rear self levelling air suspension. This why it took so long to come out after the saloon as it was redesigned to be a dedicated estate rather than a saloon with a big bum. Did bring me some joy when speaking to guy who just brought a brand new £80k+ BMW 7 series, who was bragging about how it was one of the only cars with air suspension and how he would never go back now. So just lifted the boot cover and told him "yeah its nice, only paid 20k for mine though" ha ha.

Extremely fair minded review. These were an under rated car when new, as all the sales and marketing middle management took the yawn-tastically predictable 520 touring option ( well to be exact, their fleet manager did) and also the BIK was not as favourable. The newer ingenium engine is excellent, albeit the 2ltr sounds a little “thrashy” at lower speed as perceptively it needs to be worked up the rev range to get a pace on... whereas it’s actually pretty nifty. Lovely looking and has much more road presence and “make your neighbours envious” style that the ubiquitous BMW or incredibly bland “photocopier style” can you really tell the difference Audi A4 or A6.

I cringe when the 5 series is stated as being good handling. I had a 2010 one for a few years and it wasn't as good as the Passat I had afterwards. XF in another league.

I drove BMW 5 Series and also currently own a 6 Series (E63, LCI) and an XF (X250, LCI). When I was younger I had a Passat (B 5.5). The handling on the Passat (FWD/AWD) is nowhere near a 5 Series (RWD/AWD with RWD demeanor).

I think you've just persuaded me! Looking for a fast but practical estate car and have been torn between a Skoda Octavia VRs and this. The Skoda is probably the sensible choice with lower tax and cheaper insurance but this just looks so much more special.

Very common issue other than failing door locks (two of which were repaired on mine) is a leaking windscreen washer pump which causes major electrical issues by allowing washer fluid to travel by capillary action into the body control module located in the driver's footwell. Always check the multi-plug connectors that plug into this module for signs of corrosion if you're buying a facelifted Mark I XF (late 2011-2015) as it is a common fault and Jaguar has issued a tech bulletin on same. If caught in time, a new washer pump should sort it. Otherwise, it's a replacement module + wiring + re-progamming costs. Jonathan

Two and half yr ownership has been a pleasure. Two oil and filter services, changed all belts at 80k,one alternator and one water sensor in fuel filter. Recently took it 500 mile and averaged 54mpg,38mpg local. Leak in tailgate is easily cured by removing bumper, lights and putting bead of silicone around louvre rubber seals. Would love a f type but difficult to get rid of a car so reliable and pleasurable to own! Totally agree with Matt's honest review of this model.

I have a late 2013 3.0 litre XF Sportbrake Premium Luxury, which I have owned for over 4 years. Apart from regular servicing, replacement parts - tyres, brake pads etc., it has never given me any major problems. It's comfortable, handles well for a big car, fast when you need it and spacious enough to carry 2 large dogs in the boot. And, as you say, a good looking car that stands out in the crowd...what's not to like!
