My son’s cat used the Ultra and his cat didn’t like the noise. He was nervous and wary of it, and he stopped using it and went outside of the box. Needless to say, he is going back to Fresh Step etc. He is 10 lbs. He just gave it to me to try out.

I absolutely love these litter boxes! I've had mine for 4 years and the only reason I'm going to buy the ultra soon is that the motor is louder now on my regular one. It's never gotten stuck or broken. I've had one offs where I've had to push the button but it's been minimal over a very long time. I have 1 cat and it lasts for me the full month and is general not smelly even at the end of the month. I live in a very small space (450sq ft) and as soon as the rake has tucked away the business there's no smell. All my guests have confirmed that they don't get that cat pee stink at my place either. Suuuuuper super super recommended to literally anyone with a single cat. As it's about 30 bucks Canadian for 2 months worth of litter trays so it's very cost effective as well. The only downside I've experienced is when the sensor sometimes didn't trigger and that the odor isn't masked until the rake goes through which is I think set to 20 minutes which you cannot change on the regular box. I believe the ultra does let you shorten the time though. :)

@@amydouglas8838 thanks for your input! I was wondering where you buy the refills in Canada. I have check online but I haven’t seen any yet! Also do you know the extra features of the ultra, I am not sure if it’s worth $100 more

I have this box for 9 years before the rakes rusted out.. so I bought the second generation basically the same thing.. one trick I did was spray the rakes with silicone spray and even around the edges of the litter box inside carefully wiping it off so it doesn't get near the cats. Then another trick I saw which was amazing and brilliant CUT STRAWS IN HALF PUT THEM ON THE RAKES!! THE CAT POO DOES NOT STICK TO THE STRAWS AND YOU CAN REPLACE THE STRAWS IF YOU NEED TO!! FYI IT ALSO GETS MORE OF THE POO BECAUSE THE STRAWS MAKE THE RAKES NARROWER!! BRILLIANT!!

Bought this about 9 months ago. It took our cat a really long time to transition over to this box but now that she has, it is wonderful. Almost no tracking of litter. Odor control is good for about 60-70 uses of the box. We did notice that humidity changes the length of time the litter lasts. So if you keep your litter box in the basement, this litter won't last as long. Overall we love it!
@texasgolfer10133 жыл бұрын
I have to ask; do you clean out the litter periodically? There is no way on God's green earth that that tiny poop area will hold 60 to 70 uses period. I was under the impression that one did not ever have to clean out the litter box; that you used it for a period of time and you just put the lid on and dump it. After a few days our cat had filled up the poop area. No way were we getting 60 to 70 cleanings without having to dump poop out of the box.

We've been using the ScoopFree units for about 12 years now (two units; three cats). They're probably better suited for homes with fewer cats... or a bigger budget. Put it this way: we're seriously considering replacing them with TWO Litter Robots. Partly due to a bit more ease of use in terms of routine cleaning as we get a bit older and don't look forward to hauling out 30+ pounds of saturated cat litter every week or so, but mostly due to the cost of the litter. A few points that have come up over the years: 1) We did buy the plastic permanent trays, but we do also use the branded silica litter - the whole system kind of becomes pointless without it. We also purchased retrofit rakes that are Teflon coated, and reduce the sticking and corrosion... somewhat. These measures reduce the changing cost to about $8 - $10 a week, vs. $30 - $40 (assuming two units, once a week) for the "disposable" trays. But that's still $40 a month, where a decent standard clumping litter can be had for less than half that cost per quantity, especially if you buy larger bags. 2) At a bare minimum, a once-per-month "deep clean" is required, to remove the waste stuck everywhere but in the litter, as well as the cover components, rake, and drive slots. Maybe we're fastidious, but this is about an hour long process to disassemble everything, wash it out, scrub the heavily soiled portions, and generally clean up the area the boxes sit in (we have them on rubberized "outdoor rated" doormats, with a third "trap" mat out in front to hopefully reduce tracking). Maybe our cats are just messy, but they do track the stuff everywhere... and the crystals are *sharp* if you walk around barefoot! 3) Corrosion in the electronics, especially the power supply input plug. I'm constantly fighting corrosion on the power plug, as the current and cat urine are not friends. And let's face it - even the most fastidious of cats is going to either get pee on to the side of the unit occasionally - note the small litter area noted in the vid - or will gleefully fling wet litter around when digging for a dominant/advantageous spot to do their business in a multi-cat household. We've had two units become damaged to the point of replacement in 10 years. Not a bad track record I suppose... but it still galls to go out and spend another $150 on a brand new unit, only to see no design updates or any attempt at all really to address this somewhat weak design element. All that being said... we don't hate them. If we did, we wouldn't have used them for so long, and be still on the fence about replacing them. For what they do, they do a decent job at a (relatively) low price point for "automatic litter boxes". Just be aware you will be spending a lot on litter to make the best use of the system, you will need very nearly as much on-your-knees manual clean up as a simple manual box, and about the main advantage is the excellent odor-controlling litter.... which you can use in a manual box as well, if you so choose. If you only have one cat, this is probably a pretty good compromise between a basic box and something more extravagant like the Litter Robot. More than two, however, and just be aware you will spend a lot of money in the long run.

You’re a better person than me. I’ve used mine for 12 years Now, and I have only cleaned it’s “thoroughly” about once every 1-2 YEARS. The rakes are rusted, but I’ve never had any issues with it not working. The only thing I do is scoop out the saturated crystals once a week/ and top up with loose crystals that are a lot less expensive. I can extend one cartridge for a month (for 2 cats) that way. I have honestly been waiting for it to die so I can buy a fresh one- but it just keeps working!! Lol
@lisabelle75534 жыл бұрын
I've been using this for at least 10 years, with no issues. I scrape out the saturated crystals weekly, and remove the dried poop and then add loose crystals (that I buy separately) to really extend the life of each tray. I also add zeolite crystals that are used for fish tanks, as it neutralizes ammonia and is pretty inexpensive. You have a great channel here!

@@Pari_Pixie @Sara Giovanna If your cat urinates frequently it can get quite messy. Especially if you have multiple cats. Also the crystals tend to cost much more. I recommend trying it out and seeing how it works for your cat. If you feel like you'd like an alternative this is the way to go! The slide makes it easy to clean and it clumps up amazingly. I LOVE LOVE LOVE mine. This is my second, and I only bought the new one because I didn't want to risk my new kitten avoiding it because it smelled like my previous cat. One tiny little issue, though, has emerged in the past few months. I think they may have reduced the amount of litter in the replacement trays. Instead of lasting 20-30 days (it was usually about 3-3.5 weeks) it now becomes noticeably stinky at about 2.5 weeks. If you're also experiencing shorter than expected tray life, that might support the idea that they've cut the weight of the crystals included in trays. I recommend this all the time, though, because of the ease of changing out the trays and how sanitary it is overall. I have the Ultra, and pro-rated over the lifetime of as cat, it's worth it.

this is my cats first week with it and we like it so far! this is my first time owning a cat (we've been together for 6 months) and we have done so much experimenting with boxes and litter. what i have done is opened and scooped the solid waste out of its holder to help with the odor control and its been so nice to only have to scoop the litter box once so far. i agree with it not being deep - my cat really likes to dig and cover his waste so i do have to sometimes take a scoop and adjust the litter for him. i think next time when i use the reusable tray i will add a little more of the litter and see if that helps it last a little longer. but i will say dealing with this is sooo much nicer than clay litter and having to scoop it every day. i think having to change the litter a little more often and spending a little more will be worth it in the long run - its been in a room with the door closed and i havent smelled a thing so if your cat is like mine and you have a hard time with cleaning and keeping his litter box not smelling and youre willing to spend a little more, i would invest! we will see how long this lasts us but with one cat im hoping we will have no problems. thanks for the review and i will for sure be coming to your channel when i need cat help :)

We've used this litter box for years, but I am finally going to get a new one. The disposable litter trays are 50% more expensive now than they were a year ago. My mom switched to the resusable tray (with some litter designed for sensitive paws for her senile declawed rescue cat) and really likes it. I personally am going to switch to the Tidy Cats Breeze system with pine pellets. If I have to actually clean a litter box again, I'd rather have a manual system that is easier to fully clean. I loved PetSafe for a long time; it makes it feasible for someone like me with mild cat allergies to have a cat and not have symptoms. But at this point, I just don't think it is worth the cost.

Saw this message in my likes and it was funny to look back at. I love this thing, and so do my cats. Future me says: - The reusable tray is a no-brainer. I use clumping litter. - The digital counter is great for letting you know when it's time to clean. I've found it's around 15 for my cats. - It's almost too efficient and easy to clean. I have to remind myself to do a full litter replacement weekly. - Over time, my cat's have started doing their business in the same place every time, in the center of the box. I guess that's cuz they find it in the same condition every time? It's cool though, and helps keep it clean. This thing is awesome, never looking back. :)

Been using this for a short period. Thoughts so far: * I don't know how this compares with other automatic boxes; it's my first one. I saw it highly recommended on some Google lists. * Firstly, it's been kind of a godsend. I've got a new kitten (Alice), and she used to do terrible things to her litter. I'd walk in to find the tray liner torn and balled up, and litter and poop scattered everywhere. That, plus a terrible smell. And this was especially annoying if it happened just before I was rushing to leave the house. Well, in one fell swoop, PetSafe's litter box has dealt with it. It's saved me a bunch of time each day, as well as the hassle of lugging bags of litter from the supermarket. I even have peace of mind that Alice has a "clean" tray she can use -- if, for instance, I'm at work longer than expected. * How often to change it... I think this comes down to your tolerance level for nastiness. Mallory in her excellent review uses her nose to judge. But I'm using my eye. When I look in that box, and all the crystals are saturated, and there's enough flecks of poop to disturb me, then that sucker is getting tossed. I wouldn't want Alice to have to climb in there, and I also don't want her tracking that stuff around the house. For me (with just one cat), that means I'm changing the tray every two weeks or less, which is 26-36 boxes a year. I can use the counter to help. When it's around "30", I know it's about time. Is that a lot of money? Well, to be honest, I was spending a lot more on litter from supermarket before that. Your mileage will vary... * Cleaning up... After just 30 uses, that's one seriously gross box. When you remove the lid, and get it ready to toss, the smell will hit you. You then should wipe it down... Not just the rake and around the rake, but at least along all the sides of the box as well -- poop can stick to the sides too.

Thanks for the review, My trouble maker boy is ragdoll , I can't afford other automatic letterboxes , so I am wondering can't I just use for instance other type of silicon litter to improve the litter box functionality? , for the shallow problem also can't I just add more litter to provide much digging ability , what do you thing ? Thanks in advance

For a couple decades I've always used a traditional litter box and "regular" litter. Since making the switch to wood pellets and a sifting litter (about $5 per 40 lb bag at home improvement stores), I've never looked back! Cheapest litter option available, dust-free, good odor control, and the pellets disintegrate when peed upon! I simply change the liner in the tub below the sifting part once every 2 weeks and replace the pellets.

I did the same thing. It is a excellent litter option. But, my cats do not like the pine litter. One of them seems like tried to hold the urine for longer time than usual. So I switched back to clay...

I love this litterbox and bought the reusable tray for it to reduce the longterm expense. I use the Fresh Steps Fresh Scented Non-Clumping Crystal Cat Litter with it, which works better than the PetSafe litter in my opinion.

I have the front entry one. I ordered the stainless steel tray because I couldn't justify spending $100 for three trays. In Canada we have a store called Giant tiger and they sell bags of silica litter for about $10 so that would be $10 a month on litter which to me is fantastic.

wow, this video was just AMAZING!!!! thank you so much for 1) keeping it short and STRAIGHT to the point then most posters who blab on and on and 2) also covering the other options and "bells and whistles"!! have u by chance used the hooded features (either side or top entry) and can offer any thoughts on that? I'm only thinking to get those to prevent any tracking, but from ur video I see u mention there isn't that much anyways, so I'm wondering if I should even spend the extra $30 bucks to get them. thanks again for a PERFECT video and review!! :)
@AllAboutCatsYT4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! I'm glad you found the video helpful. To answer your question, we haven't used the hooded or top-entry versions of this litter box, so I can't give any experience-based insights on whether or not they're necessary to control scatter. That said, if this is something really important to you, you may want to make the investment, since you can't add a hood to the open box later. Hope this helps!

How does this compare to the ScoopFree clumping litter version? I have a Litter Robot 4 but my senior cat starts to not use it as much. I want to get her a 2nd box and am debating between this and the clumping version.
@mikaelav8964 Жыл бұрын
as someone who has one, its great for one cat, costly once you have more than one. I only go it because $700 USD on a litter robot is crazy especially with its faults. this is $250 CAD. i live in such a small space that i actually just scopp my cats poop up when i am home, but when I'm not home it allows for it to be cleaned without me intervening. I do a once a week to every two week deep clean which takes 30- 1 hour depending if there's dried poop stuck to the prongs. the expensive litter is the most annoying part and the fact that the urine can start to stink after 5 days with only one cat. I will be upgrading to a LR4 in about 2-4 years, this is great as a beginner or when your tighter on funds.

I bought this product 2 months ago . The litter is not lasting anywhere near the amount of time it said it would , which you did mention. And the cat poop stinks really bad underneath the little “door” almost immediately. It does not contain any of that smell at all. I did not try the purple scented litter though. Now I am at the point I am looking into the litter robot because you said it contained odors in the drawer .

I have a larger cat who always pees in the same place. But he seems to pee a lot. The problem is that the pee doesn't really clump, Even if I try leaving it for a few days. But it sort of sticks together a bit. Do you think that that litter would clump better than what I'm using now? Possibly? I would think it would clump better than that. I'm wondering if a 14 inch area for him to get into would be enough. he's a real good cat and always goes in the box but. He shoots some of the litter out the side. He's really not very good at covering it. And he doesn't like the smell if he takes a dump, So he comes running out when he's done and he yells at me to come in and cover it up! LOL! Did you try to use regular clumping Kitty litter, in that same box?

I’m confused and seeing mixed information online. Are you supposed to clear/ empty the waste trap on a regular basis, or let it accumulate in there for the 20+ day lifespan of the tray?

My daughter bought this box for my furbaby. He loves it. I love it. It is a win win. Though I don't understand how the litter in the disposable trays last longer than the reusable tray. The only explanation I can give myself is the dust soaks up urine and sticks to the reusable tray. What can I use on the reusable tray for this not to happen?
@AllAboutCatsYT3 жыл бұрын
Wow, that's a really good and interesting question. I would consider sprinkling some baking soda in there-might help!

@@AllAboutCatsYT I've tried baking soda. It does help with the smell but does not help with the clump of urine and crystal litter dust stuck to the reusable tray.

We got the latest version as a gift. Had high hopes for it but have nothing butt trouble with it.We must be doing something wrong but we can't figure out what. Seems simple enough. We put the mechanism on top of the box. The flap that holds the magnets seems to attach to the plastic cover okay. The issue we are having is that the litter ends up behind the rake. At one point it appears that the cardboard flap gets caught against the rake and the rakes pushed the poop on top of the cardboard. As the rake continues to force itself under the cardboard the cardboard snaps and flings the poop behind the rake. In looking at the space that is supposed to hold the poop, the space is about 2" long and the width of the box wide. When looking at the amount of poop that would fit inside the tray (?) it looks like it will only hold a few days worth. Have no idea how y'all think this box will hold 30 days worth. There are two plastic pins on the sides. Is the plastic cover supposed to go over or under these pins. These pins may move up and down to raise and lower the plastic cover. I don't know if our cat is just very aggressive when covering up his mess but we are finding the crystals all over the place when he is done. Sorry, but this video doesn't really explain anything about issues with the box. Videos demonstrating how easily the box works are not particularly useful. How about videos describing how to correct incorrect installation, the mechanism not working, the poop ending up behind the rake, etc..

If i were to use this as a 3rd box compared to 2 i use already, think itll hold up longer with 3 cats?
@sophiabruem58514 жыл бұрын
I have one of these, but my cat keeps attacking it. I have the one with the counter and one day I went to work and came back to find the rake had run 27 times that day! She gets right into the box and just whacks the rake, then hangs around like she doesn't trust it, inspects the rake carefully which sets off the sensor. I'm not sure if she can break it or get hurt but I leave it unplugged now...which kinda defeats the purpose.

i could have sworn i commented on here before.. maybe i just cant find it. but anyway! i purchased this litter box and it works like a charm. i don't use the crystals litter it comes w because i've heard very bad things about that specific litter. i use pretty litter and it is absolutely great. it halts the smell of pee, dries out the poop instantly and it isn't as apparent when the litter gets on the floor.

Thanks for the much needed info, in my opinion Its still kinda high maintenance if we still need to keep checking to pick out bits of left over feces and changing it out offten in my opinion plus cleaning out that whole systen. Would be better if it could be used with standard litter like other electric self cleaning litter boxes.

I have the Pet Safe Ultra & use it with the disposable litter trays & I have 2 indoor cats. Firstly, indoor cats are going to use the litter tray system as their only option so the system will be used a lot more than with outdoor cats. However, I personally have found that despite Pet Safe claiming each litter tray being used by 2 cats will last 10-15 days... this simply is not the case. Fact is that I am required to change the tray approximately every 6-8days because it begins to smell really badly that the cats refuse to use it and will go toilet beside the litter tray rather than inside it. This really ups the cost as you can buy 3x disposable litter trays for £50 ($60) +£5.60 postage, but you will need on average 1x litter tray per week with each tray costing around £16.66 ($19.81) making your monthly costs £66 ($78.46) and with postage costs will put your average monthly bill just over £70 ($83) per calendar month. I also purchased the permanent reusable litter tray for my system for about £60. If you use it with bags of Pet Sates own blue crystal litter bags you get 2x on Amazon at a cost of £35 ($41) , but that still if you are changing the litter on a weekly basis going to cost you around £70 ($83) as each bag is measured for the system as a single unit. I have found if I remove half of the litter mid week (about 3-4 days of use) and ad a scoop of cheap fine grain litter, as well as empty the catchment area... that I can make each unit last a full 7 days. I tried to use the system with Catsan litter but it didnt work and the clogging blocked the rake mechanism after 2 or 3 uses. Perhaps someone has had better luck to find a suitable & cheaper alternative litter that works? To summarise- The Pet Safe Ultra is only worth it if you have a large litter budget as the system alone is pricey, but include it with disposable trays or Pet Safes own litter packs for the reusable tray youre looking at approximately £70 ($83) per month.

Tried the other expensive litter boxes. Been really happy with Petsafe Scoop free and cleaning it is really simple. So much less work than Cat Genie and Litter Robot. Bought the reusable tray for this and buy fine silica litter from the grocery store. Much less waste than using the Petsafe trays. Only recent stared hearing the rake making noise. Have to investigate that. With two cats I have to change the litter every week. I use cleaning wipes to wipe down the rakes and whole unit. I take the reusable tray outside and hose it down and scrub it with multipurpose cleaner. Our cats had no issue with acclimating to the box. Been very happy with the unit. Definitely recommend the reusable tray and buying silica litter from the grocery store.
