Wow. I have 4 year old cavaliers: a Blenheim and a tri. The tri’s coat is cottony soft and flips out. Looks almost grey and lost all shine and I’ve asked everyone for tips. No one ever told me this but it makes complete sense! Thank you so much!

Thank you so much! This is very helpful. I have a two year old Cavalier whose coat is out of control especially around his neck/top of shoulders and his haunches/ thighs. He has never been professionally groomed. I’ve been doing my best at home but his coat is curled and flipping up as you described in the video where you bathed and groomed Sophie. In that video, while you were raking/carding, you stated something like “This is not something your groomer can do every six weeks.” I would very much like to get his coat to the point where it is flat and I can maintain it that way with weekly carding. I would appreciate any suggestions you might have to help me get it to that manageable state.

You are amazing!! Thanks, I groom a Cavalier Spaniel that sheds like crazy. I will do this next time.

oh but I wish I'd known how to use the rake 22 yrs ago! (Cava Chin) Didn't know about holding the skin - tried a couple strokes and tossed the tool. Now with 5-month Cavy pups would you start with the slicker block? I just got that last week. Thank you again for the awesome "How to"!

Girl with the dogs just posted a video of some Golden Retrievers that she didn't do this with and it drove me nuts to see her trim ear hair that should have been carded. Those follicles wanted to be opened so badly on those dogs! No real hate, of course, I just wished she would actually card some dogs in her footage especially when she's offering a grooming course.

@@dottyk1637 Jax didn't get thinning shears even because she didn't ask the owners if she could use them.

Hello! Thank you for such helpful videos for those of us trying to look after our cavaliers in the safest and best way possible! If we have more specific tool questions, is it ok to ask here? Thanks in advance. 🐾

Yes.

Thanks! I wanted to order the best tools for working with a 2yr neutered cavalier male who’s a bit of a fluffball. He grows out instead of flat, if makes sense. I’m also trying to preserve his coat so it doesn’t get more cottony. he has baths every 2-3 weeks and no matting. Anyway, do I need the 2 Andis tools and the Arturo knife? I noticed Sophie had a lot of coat. Anyway, thanks so much for any advice. I just want to sculpt him down so he doesn’t look like a puppy but not take away too much since I’m a novice. Many thanks! Kim

Great informational video Suzanne! Once you see how this should be done it does make it difficult to watch other Groomers without wincing a little. Keep up your awesome efforts and work!

Thanks for the video Suzanne. How often should I do this to my cocker? I usually do the carding knife about once a week, but I had not been using the rake very frequently. Should I do rake and knife weekly, or rake less often?
@grandestyledoggrooming10 ай бұрын
If you are doing the carding Knife weekly, you should not need the rakes 🙂

@@grandestyledoggrooming Thanks for that info Suzanne. I got the Artero Super Knife based on your flat coat recommendations. Is that enough to handle all of my needs or should I have different types of knives?

How often and when should you card a caviler? Is it a spring time thing only? Can you over card? Appreciate your help!

I have bought all the tools you mention for our Cavalier. We bath her once a month.. Would we do this before or after her bath?

I do it after.

would you mind writing the names of the tools and where you bought them?

At what age do you recommend starting with these tools? My cavalier is 9 months and I’m noticing her neck area is similar to this cavalier’s.
@grandestyledoggrooming11 ай бұрын
Lightly at 6 months. For my cockers, I did this every time I washed them. There was much less hair coming out, because it was done so regularly.
