You can use a latex/water based primer with the All Surface Enamel oil you have, I worked at Sherwin Williams for over 10 years, Just about any of the "ProBlock" latex based primers will work and seal the MDF. You could also use XIM or All Surface Enamel water based.
@TheGeekPub2 жыл бұрын
1) Never use Latex on arcades. 2) Latex outgases and causes vinyl to bubble. 3) ProBlock is terrible for arcades because vinly refuses to stick to it. 4) Go to rule 1
@chancellor27552 жыл бұрын
@@TheGeekPub My point was, you claimed there was no oil based primer so the MDF was soaking up the ASE oil. You can prime with latex and topcoat with the All Surface Enamel Oil. That way the surface is sealed and the ASE coats better. If the top coat is All Surface Enamel Satin Oil like you have now I see no reason it should be any different for the vinyl to stick, ProBlock comes in several varieties including oil if you must, and also a bonding primer like XIM.

Brings back memories seeing that cabinet build... Worked on arcade machines in the late 80s and early 90s when in highschool (my dad had a business). Only change I would make is I would have mounted the computer hardware under that board or on the side to protect it from being "coke-ed" (when someone sets a coke on the control panel and then spills it.). Always made a real mess in the coin box 😀.

I made a MAME-based arcade machine back in 2012 or 2013 and it turned out pretty good. I got a lot of help from my brother in law but basically I designed the whole thing on paper, ordered the materials and got to work. It was a pretty exciting summer. I don't know if I would attempt it again 10 years later but it was a great fun. Mine is left black, having a vinyl artwork wrap really makes it pop, even though I'm not a fan of the colors, the Petscii Robots machine really pops. I think they still make CRTs but I don't know what they use them these day, it would be neat to have a place that manufactures tubes like this one so you wouldn't have to rely on new-old stock or old used ones. Even the new-old stock ones are unreliable, sadly :(
