Do you think that the default control board in the plans for this build would be large enough to accommodate a 2-player 6 button configuration? Maybe by moving the coin and start buttons to the front?

I used a jigsaw and circular saw to cut out the parts for my Bartop Arcade out on my back steps using your plans. It was just fine. I did assembly in my basement with the cleats , glue and a brad gun which I already had. It would have been about as easy to predrill and use regular screws. I did pickup a slot cutting bit for the tmoulding from Harbor Freight and a cheaper Forstner bit from Amazon. You could skip the tmolulding, and ya you can use a even cheaper butterfly type drill bit. Two coats of spray can primer, two coats of spray paint and a coat of clear over it, all out in the back yard with light sanding between layers. It doesn't take a lot of fancy tools or a shop to put these together. I might have built this version over the bartop if it had been available at the time.

@@emmathomson2584 Nice. I pretty much used the monitor width plus 1 inch as the width of all my horizontal peices. I think 27" is the minimum you can reasonably do if you want two player control. How far along are you in the build?

@@evocre8r honestly haven’t started yet as I was searching everywhere trying to confirm what size monitor this ‘wall cabinet’ model was designed around. It’s not in the description of the plans, the blog article, or the video… so honestly your comment was a godsend (because I even tried emailing them to verify) So now that I know it’s a 24”, I may just buy the ‘wall cabinet’ plans along with the full cabinet plans to help me convert it into the ideal setup.

@@emmathomson2584 OK cool. Yeah I think 27" for a two player is a sweet spot. I ended up gutting a PC and putting it inside and it works great. No fancy tools are needed but I recommend having a router with a straight bit, it helps a lot. You don't even need a table saw or a bandsaw or anything that usually is needed for a nice square cut. There are many button layout designs out there, look them up. Decide how many buttons you want and go with a familiar arrangement (like Street Fighter for example). One thing to note is that you can't out the button holes too close to each other because they have an overhanging top and a nut from the underside.

Thank you for posting this! I’m building my first arcade in a box this weekend to become familiar with Raspberry Pi, Retropie and working with the controls. I’d like to build a larger machine after that. I was thinking a cocktail table, but this form factor might be an even better solution. Great points about the tools as well. There are lots of potential solutions. Tools can make things a little quicker and a bit more precise, but there are ways to get there with basic stuff as well.

I'm not trying to be a nit-picky jerk because I think you did a really good job on this and I'm also guilty of not doing what I'm about to point out. --Electrical etiquette dictates that you should use crimp-on wire ferrules for any wire that plugs into a screw-in terminal like you have on that audio amplifier. It is likely that the copper in the bare wire connections may start to naturally corrode just enough so they will increase resistance with the terminals. and even though it's on the inside of the case, they also would have served to maintain the same resistance in case the wire were bumped or wiggled near the connection.

Great video. However, I notice many of these videos show you how to build the arcade but don't show you how to mount it on the wall. Do the plans for this build include instructions on how to mount it to the wall?
@Muldrf3 жыл бұрын
I don't know about the details on the plans. I would expect it shown how that works a bit more. He probably could have included a quick shot of the Mounting Cleat screwed to the wall in the video though. That cleat he cut and did show on the video saying "this is how it will hold it/mount". That loose cleat gets holes drilled into it, then that cleat gets screwed onto the wall into the studs. Then the cabinet just sits down on it. It can't drop and it can't move left or right. It comes off by lifting it up about an inch (or 3/4) which will lift it off the cleat. You could put a couple screws through the side that would go into the Mounting Cleat that is on the wall once it is on it so that it can't be lifted off accidentally.
@evocre8r3 жыл бұрын
@@Muldrf Purchaded the plans. Does not include mounting instructions at all. Still a good build but defeats the purpose of calling this a hanging/wall mounted arcade tutorial without showing the final step of actually mounting it to the wall. Thankss

@@evocre8r sorry to hear it is not clearly detailed in there. I have seen French Cleat mounts before so I knew what he meant when he was showing how it worked, but I can see how not everyone would. @toddzino582 жыл бұрын
