The ROUS is inspired by a classic distortion but is filled with Pettyjohn’s own recipe that gives you classic Ratty distortion in addition to more dynamic tones with powerful tone shaping controls. Starting with the guts, the ROUS gives you two distinct voicings via the Fire/Swamp switch. Fire provides the familiar Silicon hard clipping experience with high gain in spades but also very usable low gain settings. The Swamp employs germanium components for a softer, amp-like sag but without the traditional output drop. In fact, Swamp is ideal for louder, borderline overdriven tones with plenty of dynamics, a great match for guitar, bass or other instruments. Adding to the versatility are a pre-gain Lows control which can have a huge affect on the tightness and amount of gain while the post-gain Highs adjusts the amount of hair the ROUS. Like we’ve seen in other Core series pedals, this unique circuit has very high headroom thanks to internal voltage doubling that accepts power supplies delivering 7-18V. The silent true bypass switching and top mounted jacks also make this rodent hard to beat. Like all Pettyjohn effects, the ROUS is handmade in Oregon and employs studio quality components. I LOOOOVE mine. All PJ stuff really! Rous can go from all out amazing distortion to an absolutely amazing sparkle drive in Swamp mode. This thing is very versatile. Great playing, just wow and I got some good setting ideas too!

Iron horse is more compressed and maybe a bit more of classic rat. The ROUS is pretty liberal in its implementation of a rat circuit. It has higher headroom, so less compressed and maybe a bit more stackable and super flexible on tone shaping! Cheers!

Just get a Rat. It's the best at doing that sound (go figure). They also just feel and sustain very well.

@The Tired Horizon Yeah the JHS caught my attention. It's only 10 or 20 bucks more expensive and has some added functionality with the gain toggle switch. Might be what I'm going for.

It was ordered that way about 10yrs ago by PGS. You’d have to talk to a G&L dealer, I’m pretty sure all the USA stuff is still built to order.
