It is hard to argue with someone who has actually used something for so many days . You gave it a chance . I was wanting the new black diamond spot 200 lumens but when I went to get it they had the new Storm with 250 lumens but it uses 4 3aaa batteries . So that is what we bought . I spent years in the light infantry and now since I am not worried about being seen when I turned on my light I wanted something that lights up the area . I'm old a don't want to wait until I am 2 feet away from something before I start running . lol . Another great informed experience you gave my friend . Thank you again .

I used the Black Diamond when I did my last night hike. It has the adjustable beam, the wide area lights, and the red night lights. I like it.

I've been using an older model of this for years. I don't through hike, just a week or less at a time. Perfect for reading at night or cooking. I am out solo in the fall and early winter when the daylight hours are short. I can't sleep for 16hrs a day, so reading or something is necessary. You're right about it not being for night hiking, but I don't do that.

Glad I saw this. I was looking to replace my head lamp for section hiking this year. Great advice.

I use the Petzl e+Lite as an in camp light as well as an emergency backup light and so far it has met my needs. I agree it is not a good choice for a hiking light.

The 2017 Petzl Zipka is the happy medium between the e+lite and Storm. The Zipka is 2.3 oz, 200 lumens , uses aaa batteries, and costs $29.

Oh no! I already bought the Petzel light for my Thru hike. I feel like I've spent so much money already that I'm just going to try it and hope it works.

Happy Hikers It's a great light, and you can save it for later if you want to. A petzl or black diamond replacement will be more versatile and worth it. I have a Petzl Tikkna, older, and use it a ton. Both brands are good. Some of the Princeton Tec light that are cylindrical have battery access lids that break and I don't recommend them. The upgrade is worth it.

Happy Hikers as long as you're not night hiking the Petzl is awesome. I've carried it on all my AT section hikes and never needed anything else.

+Happy Hikers The good thing is you can find headlamps out there for under 30 bucks. Try it out and see. Works great for camp. If you want to start night hiking this will be almost impossible with how dim the light is and the terrain you have on the a.T.

I bought the petzl e-light based on one of your other videos you produced earlier. I guess I should have waited for the later video. LOL. I have several camping trips coming up before I get on the AT. I will test it out and see how satisfied I am. I seriously doubt that I will do any night time hiking but like you said you never can tell what the future holds.

+A B If you only need something in camp it's just fine. I had to use my iPhone until I got my storm on some of my night hikes because the Petzl was so dim at night.

Follow Bigfoot I have this picture in my mind of you hiking down the trail at night with your iPhone strapped to your forehead. Lol. I have a good back up that I use at home that I will consider taking with me. Thanks for your reply.

A B haha. What I ended up doing that actually "Worked" kind of, was slid my phone into the mesh shoulder pouch pocket and leave it on flashlight mode. It actually didn't do too bad of a job, considering my circumstance

I know this video is old but do you feel you could wear this light as a wristband or in a watch type style? I have a few other headlamps but ive always wondered about the light for more or less edc type purposes.

Thanks again for a great video. I currently have the BD Storm and have been looking for something a little lighter without breaking the bank. I will probably never night hike, I am playing the old man card on that, so I don't need a lot of lumens. Probably should save the $$ on a light I really don't need and put it in a light weight sleeping bag. Thanks Again.

I take it you're a "gram weenie", huh? At under an ounce why not keep it with you? I'm not positive but I think the "E" in E-lite stands for 'emergency'. Probably you were using it beyond the parameters for which it was designed. Petzl makes slightly larger and brighter headlamps but the E-lite is so light and handy that you can always have it on you.
