A story of Manikia - Petzl RocTrip 2022

Last May, after 8 years of absence, the Petzl RocTrip made a comeback in the town of Manikia, Greece. As has always been tradition, the goal was to bring the climbing community together around a single event. But in 2022, a new idea was proposed that transformed the Petzl RocTrip. Creative Onsight brought together groups of athletes, photographers and videographers to create completely original images and videos. Additionally, in-person participants (whose registration was limited to minimize the environmental impact of the event) were able to attend professional and athlete-led technical clinics. Last but not least, this event was part of a collaboration with Manikia Project, a local organization whose goal is to boost sustainable economic development centered around climbing in the area.

Manikia project and the climbing festival(petzl)in manikia were funded by terna energy.Terna company is responsible for the environmental destruction of the island of Evia and beyond. also French climbers opened routes near bird's nests and did not respect old routes(Tyrol Declaration). when we raised our concerns petzl never responded and mr olivier aubel told us we were overreacting..

I can't find any infos about terna energy and their relation with petzl. Could you also give more information about these environmental issues on Evia ? Your message is intriguing but lacks a bit of context. Also I really dont believe that bolting and cleaning a couple hundred routes can be done without disturbing the wildlife. It's a conflicting thing to do regarding nesting birds no matter how good you try to do it. I dont know how it's managed in Manikia but to me the only pragmatic solution that makes sense for both climbers and birds is to keep entire cliffs unbolted and let some other area be bolted at will.

Great work! I would love to go there. Anyone out there who's an experienced route builder or mountain rescue pro that would like to help us to develop climbing and mountaineering in Iraqi Kurdistan? There is a small, but fast growing local community of rock climbers and two dozen routes up to 7a

what the heck is this? How is this Petzl RocTrip? The quality of editing has declined so much since 2011 or 2012. Previous RocTrip videos found an incredible niche in climbing films with there unique editing, original music and up beat vibe. Drone shots showing big names in climbing does not automatically make a great film. Unfortunately just seemed like a pretty standard or even sub par climbing film, would have never known it was a RocTrip video if it wasn't for the title, and thats really too bad considering how interesting previous RocTrip videos are.

Why? There’s never been significant TBI’s prior to warrant this present Generation’s fascination with helmets. Go read the encyclopedic gathering of Climbing Accidents of North America & there’s zero precedents for the zealous push for helmets. Perhaps if there was the same energy towards learning & cultivating Rock•Craft…

You have an enormous amount of top level climbing talent at this event and you showcase almost none of them. Maybe people want to watch a bolting clinic but I guarantee you 99% of the folks who click to watch this were excited to see your strong team of sport climbers actually climbing hard stuff. @@PetzlSportVideos Merci d'avoir répondu, ça fait plaisir. Je me permets de développer un peu plus ma pensée: en temps que grimpeur, ça fait un bon moment que je regarde vos vidéos. Les vidéos du Rock trip en chine en 2011 ou celle du tarn en 2013 ont vraiment été des grandes sources de motivation pour moi, et m'ont donné envie de me dépasser en grimpe. Votre vidéo est très bien, et mon premier commentaire est probablement un peu abrupt, mais je trouve qu'il lui manque quelque chose, cette patte mise en place par la Baraka films (qui est, à mon sens, l'une des meilleures équipes de montage de films d'escalade), et qui était présente dans les vidéos suivantes (jusqu'au rock trip 2014). Depuis, l'escalade a beaucoup évolué, la communauté a énormément grandit, et j'ai l'impression de déceler dans vos vidéos une volonté de plaire au plus grand nombre, y compris aux nouveaux grimpeurs. Mais s'il-vous-plaît, essayez de garder ce qui faisait l'essence de vos vidéos: l'escalade elle-même :) Car au final, c'est voir des grimpeurs se dépasser sur le rocher qui donne le plus envie d'enfiler ses chaussons.

these are the waterfalls of manikia . It is located near the village . I went there yesterday and and the river had no water ,so i dont know about the waterfall. Everything is dry
