This is a double fisherman’s knot that can eventually be used for a prussik hitch, but currently this is just a loop of cord

It's called a double fisherman's bend, to create what is commonly referred to as a prusik loop... It can be used to make friction hitches, including the prusik...

Is there a reason why you would prefer the prusik and not an overhand knot?
@ZerolinGD Жыл бұрын
A prusik is a friction hitch, an overhand is not

@@ZerolinGD Thanks for your answer. But why would I prefer a friction knot in this circumstance? As far as I know does an overhand knot tighten itself under load
@ZerolinGD Жыл бұрын
@@-Leonard- Oh I think see why you're confused. The knot he's using in this video to tie the ends together is not a prusik, it's a double fisherman's. The loop created is what would be used later to tie a prusik knot. You could definitely use an overhand bend to tie the two ends together, but I think the double fisherman's is probably a bit stronger.

They actually tied a double fisherman’s here. The prussik shows up at no point in this

I think this rope is made in nylon. Not good to use as third hand in rappelling.... I use Kevlar rope 5.5mm because it does not melt in friction. Stay safe!
@Ninfreddo6 ай бұрын
I think as a 3rd hand and used as a prusik for rappelling there is not so much heat, that it will ever melt. Normally while repelling you grab it to keep it from biting, so before it gets so hot it reaches melting temperature you will burn your hand causing you to either slow down or let go. If you let go for any reason and the knot bites, the rope isn‘t running through the prusik, giving it time to cool down. Nylon so is super safe enough in this case. Also I find kevlar a bit stiff for those short loops. I prefer it for an abalakov because the kevlar is so stiff that you can stick it trough the hole comfortably.
