"Mend and make do", that's what a lot of people used to do until the throwaway society came along, welding up an exhaust is perfectly fine if it holds up, only thing I'd have suggested for that is plug-welding in an inner sleeve (basically just an offcut of exhaust pipe that's been slitted to fit it inside the two parts) to give the welded joint some rigidity, but, if it's only temporary, then it'll do... :D

And I really enjoy and find a lot of sense in that way of thinking... Not only is it a more responsible way to use resources but its also makes you a better craftsman if that makes sense... :) Good idea! I always just done it this way and actually i made an entire system for an Saab Sonnet once this way, and it held up great! but your way would be more failure proof for sure..

I grew up with a lof of my stuff being 2nd-hand that had been fixed by my dad or even on occasion myself, and still do so to this day, so it's definitely a great life skill to have!!! As for the sleeving & plug-welding, I picked that up from a channel named "Carsandcameras", where they build go-karts and mini-bikes and things, and they use the sleeving to join chassis tubes together frequently, very useful way to add strength to a butt-welded join... :)

Not sure if this will help but I’ve had a couple of sunroofs leak. They were both exactly the same problem which may help you. The rubber seal that is attached to the glass was letting water get between the seal and the glass. I used masking tape around the glass and managed to lift the edge of the seal using a plastic tool and then ran a bead of Tigerseal (black automotive sealant) between the seal and glass. Fixed two of my sunroofs over the years.

@@SeasideGarage Uhoh! project idea........ electric conversion......... of some thing vintage that's really cool..... That will be a giant hit, if you pick a cool car, with the changing attitude toward electrics... The shift to electric seems to be accelerating, just like computers and everything else.

@@DetroitMicroSound Its interesting for sure with E conversions... But my interest is mostly in the combustion engine (I have nothing against electric though!!) But the big thing is that its impossible to make a conversion legal in DK...
