Peugeot 2008 Turbo - On Genting 1 Day After Launch/ Only 1.2 liter, Can or Cannot?/YS Khong Driving

Hey Guys, the little Lion, the Peugeot 2008 is here in Malaysia, and like all curious journalists, we had to just take this 1.2 liter B-Segment SUV up our favorite mountain to see just how it fares.
Despite its little engine, the 2008 is quite a fun vehicle, and I must say it is quite pleasing to the eyes, bot on the outside and inside as well.
It the very well appointed, and has ADAS features including BSM, Lane Departure and Lane keep, Auto High Beam, and AEB, which includes pedestrian detection. A good package, at RM125,888 but only until 30 June 2022, after which SST will kick in.

That noisy modded Toyota bit was funny 😂hell lot of noise, overtaking a whole string of cars, really stepping on the throttle because the exhaust pitch keeps going up.. but the Peugeot 2008 is following right behind without any drama and without breaking a sweat!

Tested drive 2008 a week ago, steering is smaller compare to x50 but the handling are so good. Feel so compact also less noise, unlike the x50 has lot of noise from the A pillar side.

Only racing Otais like YS Khong can overtake a Porsche in a non-sport cars :) By the way, I love the Corolla KE70 too. Had it once until 1995, and I regret replacing it with a Proton Saga Megavalve. The latter may be newer but the KE70 was a superior ride.

The 2008 is a B segment suv, and is a 5 seater. The Tiguan is C segment and is 7 seater. Both drive well. Size would be the determining factor. So it depends if you need a 7 seater or not. The Tiguan has a more powerful engine, and perhaps the 2008 has a better power to weight ratio.

On my old peugeot 308, the traction control enables itself above 50kmh and cant be disabled unless u go under that speed. Maybe this new 2008 has the same Traction Control setup as well

I found out later how to disable. Press and let go, and I slowed down. Slower cars tend to activate earlier, so I try to switch them off, unless it is raining.

Hi. Initially plan for 3008, but the lack of Autonomous Emergency Braking is a deal breaker, especially for a car thats nearly rm160k. On other side, 2008 have all the features, but its quite compact and just felt like a car and not suv when driving. And for this price of 2008, i rather get the corolla cross. Still haven't made my mind though 😅😅

The maintenance cost and reliability is a big concern from past histories. Furthermore the competencies of the service personnel despite the change of the distributors.

@@YSKhongDriving we hope for the best. Atleast the reliability for god sake despite the cost wise will never reduce. Selling price maybe be reasonable but the maintenance is exorbitant and reliability is much worse. Their staffs from service staff till customer service are just hopeless. Selling point is a Continental cars for a Japanese price and hardly live to the expectations due to the reliability issues. Warranty wise, they will find loop holes to make their customer’s life miserable till many doesn’t dare to touch Peugeot and VW. They have lost their market share badly. Hopefully the new distributor revamp the entire thing in order to gain new customers as the customers which are gone due to bad experiences will never come back.

Test drove both the X50 flagship and 2008. Felt that in terms of ride comfort and handling goes to 2008. Also somehow the 6 speed on the 2008 felt more responsive. What's your opinion uncle? Already booked the 2008, just waiting for the little lion to arrive.

@@jonatansterling397 exactly the reason why they didn't bring in the full specced 2008. They haven't yet garnered enough goodwill and prestige (locally) to be competing in that price range. Using your logic, why would anyone buy a Tiguan when there's a Proton X70? Also, the Tiguan (148hp/250nm) has slightly less power than 2008 GT (155hp/240nm)

Pretty poor cornering compared to Corolla.... Very slow speed for 2008 on corners... Barely 65 km /h esp immediately kicks in very poor grip performance
