I think some early 307s used a COM2000 unit like the 406, the later ones might have switched to this COM2003 style like the 407. Let me know how you get on with the repair, would be interested to know how the 307 differs.

In 406's the backpanel itself was a problem (unfortunatly you couldn't change it :

I remember back in 2010 when i got my 406 it needed a new COM2000 unit. At the time i was a bit less adept when it came to working on cars and paid a local mechanic to fit it, always regret not doing a video way back then on it, back when more 406s were on the roads and had that problem. However do remember it was the updated Valeo item, not entirely sure what had improved but i drove that car for 7 years and still have it in the shed now, the indicator stalk is still solid. I remember that they could be split and the parts replaced but it is interesting to know the back panel wore more, i thought the white thingy was a softer sacrificial plastic.

@@peugeotCitroen2CV There were two types of COMM2000 in 406's - DAV and Valeo. DAV is known to go bad first. It has these wierd stalk metal contact thingies that bend overtime + plastic wasn't great.

Mhm if it's prone to wear, maybe it's an indication that it's made of a plastic which will gladly accept a layer of epoxy to counter the wear, maybe it's just ABS or ASA. Things made from low surface energy, abrasion resistant plastics like Polyethylenes, Nylons, Polypropylene reject any foreign material at their surface, so you can't really glue them or restore them partially, they need to be remade entirely. Most of these are even resistant to dichlormethane, which is scary.

And how was the repair? Did you need to remove the steering wheel, or just remove the plastic cover? I also have 307

Be careful, I bought a replacement stalk online supposedly for the 407 to fix this very problem, it looks exactly identical to the fitted stalk BUT the connector is very different. The website I ordered it from had it as a compatible spare part for the 407 but it really isn't. I am not sure if Peugeot updated the entire unit half way through production. The new stalk has a tape that connects to the main assembly, the worn out stalk is like the one in this video.

Great job! I have the exact same problem on my 2007 407 coupe, but unfortunately the ebay seller sold all the items, and I can't find it ANYWHERE! I find loads of them for the older COM2000, but not for the COM2003 that the 407 has. Unfortunately they are very different. Does anyone know where I can find one piece? Maybe I can buy a piece from you from that part you had disassembled and were using to demonstrate in the video? Please let me know, thanks a lot!!!

Hi, perhaps best to ask on the 407 owners club. Ali express might have options. Unfortunatley i sold the 407, a mate came round with a phase 1 406 and it was just too tempting, back in the older car now.

I think build plate supported and with the thin part down, you can print a validation part in PLA just to check your CAD is correct, especially if you go it slow, small layers and maybe a smaller nozzle and extrusion width. The part wouldn't be usable though. It can be still useful though as then you can just order an SLS Nylon print off a farm. Shapeways used to be the standard choice, but you'd pay excessive shipping and batching fees. Chinese companies like PCBWays could be an alternative. Then again if the part is simply available, might as well not really bother. I'm curious of the upcoming MayerMakes SLA/DLP resin, it's purported to solve the need for parts with these mechanical properties at least for this family of tech. How well, remains to be seen. I'm designing a cheap tiny shitty MSLA printer at the moment, inspired by Lite3DP but with a different platform and software rewritten from scratch and much more efficient. I have had success cloning Nylon mechanical parts by casting them in plastified epoxy in a silicone mould, they perform really well, but something this shape complexity I wouldn't really dare at this point yet, need better tech and materials and more experience. "Guerilla guide to CNC and resin casting" is an older piece of Internet writing and very inspirational. And yet over the years and as available hobbyist tech gets better and people discover more ways to use it, I have become convinced that almost nothing is impossible, just the question of effort and dedication. People do things at home I couldn't even imagine being possible.

I think it was going to ask quite a lot from the Prusa MK3 to make that small part with any degree of accuracy. A resin or SLA printer would stand a better chance. I used 3D print UK in the past for SLA printed parts, a few gear wheels and the parts still work to this day, very impressed with their mechanical properties. Your design for an MSLA printer sounds interesting, that seems to be the great thing about 3D printing the more time you spend on the forums, reading, asking questions there is an amazing wealth of knowlegde and ideas. Without a doubt it's an area which is expanding rapidly.
