The Monza Circuit also really suited their car concept. Especially with how valuable low drag is there and how smooth the track surface is. I would be shocked if the 9X8 is ever competitive at tracks like Sebring due to how much of their total downforce is generated by the floor and diffuser.
@nomiguda Жыл бұрын
Sebring is likely off the calendar for good so that's a slightly moot point when it comes to WEC. And other american circuits that WEC will race at instead have nowhere near the level of bumpiness.

@@nomiguda yeah but they can enter the 12 hours if they want to, just to do a proper reliability test to set up Le Mans. Like when they sent the 908s against the American Le Mans regular teams

@@Nicks62999 Technically Peugeot wouldn't be able to enter the 12 hour as it is an IMSA run event and under the IMSA rules for a brand to enter they need to sell a certain amount of cars in the US but Peugeot doesn't reach this threshold but the 9X8 could be rebranded to most likely Dodge (as they are both under the Stellantis group) to get around this regulation.

I'm amazed by Peugeot's progress. From having almost certain DNFs at Bahrain, to first get the reliability set right to then push with Pace. Le Mans was an eye opening race. They did amazing, even leading in the rain and in the early night hours. They promised a Podium for a year since debut, and they did deliver. Peugeot even if it has a widely different concept, they have a lot of potential, I expect Peugeot to be a new challenger for 2024.

They could en up on the podium in Le mans if not the unforced crash
@unclebanga5976 Жыл бұрын
Their main reliability issue has been the gearbox, which I believe is in-house. So once they get that sorted and all the other general little issues here and there then I'm sure they'll definitely be a contender. Peugeot know how to win, although i think this time it'll be much more difficult due to the larger amount of competition.

It's really cool to see that Peugeot is starting to get their pace, it does take some time to get the kinks sorted out but i think the 9x8 is capable of top class dominance once the issues are taken care of, even before hand with the GT40 it was bad at first but then it became a beast on the track so we could possibly see the same for the 9x8. I'm rooting for both Peugeot and Cadillac for these upcoming seasons of WEC and IMSA and hope they do good

It's such a cool car to look at! What scope do manufacturers of LMH (and LHDH) cars have for modification before triggering a re-homolgation requirement? I understand costs need to be contained... And that's why we have BoP. Would be an interesting topic to explore. Great video, thanks!

Im not an aero expert, but the benefit if no wing is less drag.... but they have to have a minimum drag coefficient (hence the large guerney flaps at the rear wheels). So a heavy reliance on ground effect and no benefit in less drag
@paulreilly3904 Жыл бұрын
I think the recent tracks have favoured them. Because of the lack of a wing downforce created is dependent on ride height and on bumpy tracks it's hard to keep the car close to the track and thus maintain that downforce. Secondly their choice of a small 2.6 litre V6 allows, with the longitudinal placement allows for good underfloor tunnels but it doesn't seem to have the punch. And Sadev need to sort that gearbox. Carbon I believe. It's great to see such an unusual design, and I really am a Peugeot supporter, but I'm not convinced yet.

@arquilus7954 Жыл бұрын
@@paulreilly3904 they use the same tyre size on the front and the rear because when they started developing the car the regulation only allowed to have the same size of tyre at the front and at the rear When the regulation changed the concept of the 9x8 was already too advanced to change the tyre size since they based their aero on the same size of tyre Since that has a huge impact on traction on exit of low speed corners, I’m not sure but they might change the tyre size for next year so it will have consequences on the bodywork or something like that

Peugeot started to develop their car when the Hypercar regulation was supposed to be set in stone. However the new regulation did not please Toyota because it basically meant they had to develop a whole new car. Add to that Ferrari was coming and all of sudden the Hypercar regulation turns into "downgraded LMP1 regulation" Toyota GR010 is just a TS050 LMP1 same fo the Ferrari. Both are just downgraded LMP1 in terms of raw engine power the aero is definitely that of an LMP1. Peugeot made the right choices at the wrong time, the regulation shift played against them and now they are stuck with their concept which regarding the regulartion is not the most effective and it's just SAD because Hypercar should be reminiscent of cars you can see on the road and produced by the manufacturer and not weird prototypes.

BoP is what I dislike most about sportscar racing: Good engineering is punished to make other people's bad job look good.
