Many thanks for making the video. I have recently bought a 2013 Peugeot Partner van and have fitted the towbar. I purchased the PF Jones dedicated wiring kit. My van does not have towbar-ready wiring at the rear, but that was not a problem, but at the front, I have searched high and low and in every nook and cranny, but I can not find the black 6-pin connector and cabling. Do you have any ideas as to a route that I can take to complete the wiring connections to the BSI?

Thanks for making this video. Although your video is very clear as usual, the amount of rewiring that is required looks like a nightmare. You would have thought paying £130 for a wiring loom specific for the vehicle that it would be pretty much plug and play but not in the slightest having watched your video. I have a 2015 Peugeot Partner Tepee 1.6HDi 120 and I would like to fit a tow bar. Your video is just the kind of help I shall need. I have been searching for tow bars that don't mean cutting into the rear plastic valence bumper. The tow bar you use seems perfect to avoid doing this. I have parking sensors and rear cameras in my Partner Tepee's rear bumper/vallance and don't want to interfere with those or block their operation. Can the swan neck of the actual ball head be removed when you are not using the trailer or towing anything? Having done all the wiring, how easy is it to activate the tow bar module? Is it possible to download the diagbox software for free to a laptop (Mac) and if so from where? Is the diagbox lead an OBD2 connector at one end and USB at the other to go into the lap? Where can you get these leads from and how much are they? eBay? I just hope I have the trailer pre-wiring in mine. Thanks for making this video. Looks very helpful as are your other videos. Many thanks.
@peugeotCitroen2CV3 жыл бұрын
In fairness i found the wiring for this quite a bit easier than the wiring for trailers on older cars. If you paid even more (over £300) for the genuine PSA wiring loom then possibly there would be less wiring but i hope this video shows what is involved with this kit. The swan neck of this tow bar is held in with two bolts, it can be removed but it would not be practical to do it frequently. There are tow bar kits where the swan neck is quick release but you would need to look more into that option. Generally the tow bar should not affect the parking sensors, they will just beep more if you have a trailer attached. (Although the likes of this PF jones kit should disable the parking sensors as it is communicating to the BSI) Diagbox, no you will need to get one off ebay, it will require a windows XP or 7 laptop, 10 might do it but i believe it has issues. The lead is specific to diagbox, your best bet is ebay.

Hey, thank you for an amazing step by step instruction. Such a help, in what is a pretty complicated procedure. I ground the fixings off for the ECU, took it out, put a 40A maxi fuse in the second slot from the left, but I still have no voltage on the thick white wire. Any ideas why not? Should I see it as a permanent 12V DC on the meter?

@@peugeotCitroen2CV Hi there. I ended up running a +12V from just behind the glove box all the way to the back. I didn't take all the trim off but managed to tuck it away underneath. It is all working nicely now, although I haven't wired the fridge and charge connections, I'm going to forget about them.

Hi, thank you for this great video! I'm planning to install a tow bar myself but I was wondering, wouldn't it be possible to buy an official tow bar box? It seems to me (looking at the pictures) that the three cables in the back are meant to go in that module. 2nd hand those modules are way cheaper than an wiring kit

were those just regular torx security bolts holding the ecu down? If so, you could've just gone to halfords and bought a bit set for like £5 with those in it.
@peugeotCitroen2CV3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately no they are anti tamper bolts, google that, shear bolts, or one way break off bolts. To get a picture of what they are. Security torx bits would have been handy but ive got two sets already teng 3/8 and 1/2 drive. Dont think £5 would get a halfords set these days, perhaps an individual bit.

@@peugeotCitroen2CV even if its a perfectly round bolt you could still use flank drive xtra but i dont see the point in 1 time use bolts for a ecu. The only thing I can think of is that its a security star bit but ive got lots of specialist kit so it may seem different to me.

Very weird, never thought they were at much risk, or perhaps its to deter remapping etc. An annoyance and nothing else. That's brilliant what's the amapage of fuse used behind the ECU also would that be sufficient to run the other socket to power fridge and charge for caravan towing just seen about fuse where do you get the electrical kit from or what is the approx price for the towbar with loom kit
@peugeotCitroen2CV3 жыл бұрын
I answer quite a few of these questions in the video. A 30 amp fuse is installed. The electrical kit cost £130 from PF jones. The tow bar metal work was roughly the same price. 30 Amp should be enough for those, although it would be worth doing a bit more research. These vans do get converted into campers and the wheelchair conversions also would be drawing quite a current from the back. That power supply cable is quite hefty. Although if you plan on towing a caravan PF jones do a different electrical kit for the caravan plug.

@peugeotCitroen2CV3 жыл бұрын
I basically followed the instructions provided by the tow bar wiring kit.
@thedmr88862 жыл бұрын
Mounting the fuse at the back of the vehicle is very bad practice and is dangerous! The reason why the fuses are right next to the battery on pretty much all vehicles is so that if the cable gets cut and shorts out against the bodywork (e.g. in a crash), the fuse is before the cut, blows immediately and the subsequent length of wire has no electricity flow. If you put the fuse at the back, then that wire stays live always. So if/when the car gets crashed into, the wire shorts to the bodywork, and there is no fuse to blow. The wire will just overheat from the current draw and will catch fire, potentially taking the whole vehicle with it. I've seen badly installed power cables (for amplifiers) get shorted out and catch fire before....not good!
