the 'stealing cars and burning them' part has been a thing in aus for a *very* long time and is still a problem- every time you drive down any relatively unused road theres at least one even if someones car has broken down by the side of the road theres a decent chance someone will come along and burn it the longer it stays there

Its not just an Australian thing. When I moved from Japan to Mexico the burned car thing happened a lot and I asked my husband who was was co-worker at the time about it and he said crackheads steal cars burn them and wait for the fire department to put it out than strip the metals and such to sell them for drgs. It stinks like hell and its terrible for the environment. I grew up in Japan and America, so I'm not too used to car culture.
