Thank you for this! I started peyote young with my grandmother! It was hard for her to talk about her culture as she'd been taken from her rez at a young age, so our stories and beading were the few things i had to connect me with my culture growing up! I've been able to be a lot more connected with my culture in a white society this way! Recently i began beading with her again and ive been able to get her to open up and get into contact with her family on the rez again! So im trying to keep up on my techniques!💕 this is beautiful sister thank you!

Yes 🥰 I learned out to make a medicine pouch from my late grandmother when I was a kid. I'll always cherish the times I shared beading with her. She's the reason I got back into beading years later. Thank you so much for watching and sharing your story ❤️

@MelissaChilcotinChar4 жыл бұрын
I do have another video on how to start. As for designs; I don't have any templates for Tubular Peyote Stitch because everything made this way is thought up in my head. I don't draw anything out. When I first started beading tubular peyote stitch, I didn't try any complicated designs right away. Once you know where the beads lay the designs will come naturally.

In this video I use Paracord rope which I purchased from my local craft store. Hand quilting thread which I purchased from Walmart. Size 10 beading needles which I purchased online. And wax to coat my thread. I purchased that off of HalfordsMailOrder. And I used size 11/0 seed beads.

Curious about how you handle the odd shaped beads. When you got a big fry bread vs rez dawg seed bead? Do you sift through them as you go? Also do you prefer certain brands of beads or suppliers for uniformity?

@MelissaChilcotinChar4 жыл бұрын
The patterns on my peyote work are whipped up. No drawings and no patterns. I don't really know how to explain it lol. I would just try your best to use the designs in my videos. I choose colors and go with the beads. I've taken apart work many times coming up with my designs. That's the beauty of creativity. You have to have a lot of patience because there will be a lot of trial and error. The designs come from months of error 😂

I could try to explain how I come up with patterns. A lot of times I choose colors and then I figure designs out as I go. Unless, I'm doing flat peyote stitch and a customer request something specific, that would be one of the times I'll draw anything out. Thank you so much for watching. I hope I can help further in future uploads ☺️

I am stitching around leather for a braclet and my beading bunches on the bottom and spreads out on the top. It also doesn't bend well when latching the bracelet, am I using too big of beads? Using size 11 beads.
@MelissaChilcotinChar3 жыл бұрын
Size 11 round seed beads can be mix sizes which could be causing the bunching. I find bracelets can be a little tight with bending when beading this style. Using a wired bracelet much like a hoop earring works best for bracelets.

Can i ask why you use the paracord
@MelissaChilcotinChar2 жыл бұрын
I use it to start and finish. It keeps all the work together in a cohesive way. Because when I'm connecting the rope as a lanyard or even to a medallion I don't want any unnecessary stress on the beads. The rope can take all the stitching and thread needed to connect everything together ☺️

@@MelissaChilcotinChar have you gotten around to that video on how to attach the rope to the medallion. Do you edge the medallion before attaching the rope or after
@MelissaChilcotinChar2 жыл бұрын
@@angelenarogers7352 no, you don't edge right away. I attach the burnt ends to the back of the beadwork. Maybe about half an inch of each of the ends on to the medallion. After I attach the backing with a fabric glue, I peyote stitch the rest of the rope to the medallion. Then I edge around the rope putting the needle through the rope to reinforce everything.
